Willians Astudillo 2019 Outlook

This guy is awesome to watch ūüėĄ

Was visibly mad that they threw him 2 straight balls inside, he wants something to hit! So next pitch he pulls right down the line for a double.

I think he saw 5 pitches today. Two singles and double with a couple of runs driven in.

I don't know where they will play him.  They have Castro and Garver at catcher ahead of him. I would guess he would be lucky to play 3 games a week somewhere.

He has been playing some 3rd in ST. Maybe he gets a game or two there a week until Sano comes back. Cron and Austin seem like they have 1B. Maybe some games at DH when they sit Cruz. He has logged 2 games in left field in ST. But I don't see how they sit Rosario, Buxton or Kepler much as that is their best Defensive fielders and they have Cave to get in the lineup too. I still think 3 games a week.

Duda released today which opens up more of a door to PT for this man.

Doesn't do anything with Cron, Austion, Cruz still there.

Is he going to be the starting catcher? He has shown good stuff.  Was considering drafting him in one of the last rounds.  Seems he should start.

No. Playing time is a very big issue for him.

Went the entire spring training without a BB or a K. See ball, hit ball.

I spoke too soon, in his 50th PA he took a BB. He then proceeded to steal 2nd standing up. Love this guy.

Will he play often enough to stick him at C in fantasy?

He's versatile enough that he'll fill in at several infield positions (mostly 3B) when he's not starting at C. I like his energy and momentum - taking a flyer on him in 14+ team leagues (and makes a really nice upside C2 in 2 catcher leagues.

The hope, I believe, is that he hits his way into as close to an everyday role as possible such that they can't afford to take his bat out of the lineup.  Go get 'em A-Stud!

In all honesty based on stats he might have the best contract skills in baseball. It would be very difficult for him to bat less than .280 as much as he puts the ball in play. If he gets regular ABs he's going to be fantasy gold at catcher.

He most certainly has the best contact skills. The legend says, in one season in the Venezuelan league, he recorded 2 strikeouts. In one season.

Is his defense that bad? Hard to understand why he isn't getting more of a regular look at C now.

The bat skills are awesome for a catcher, prime Buster Posey level minus the walks.

He might get quite a few starts at 3rd until Sano returns. The Twins have a few MI who can play multiple positions. So it will hard to say when he plays. They have 2 other catchers.

He will most certainly get late inning at bats with runners on base as a pinch hitter.
