Francisco Lindor 2019 Outlook

Probably getting a second opinion because the team doctor deemed the manager sane who wrote T. Naquin into the 3 hole of a major league lineup yesterday.  Get him in the hands of people with a clue.

I just saw this article from yesterday:

https://www.cleveland.com/tribe/2019/03/cleveland-indians-getting-second-opinion-on-francisco-lindors-ankle-injury.html

Why are the Indians seeking a "second" opinion unless the first was bad? Do you guys think it is time to try to deal Lindor for 75 cents on the dollar before it is revealed he is out until July?

A mild to moderate ankle sprain should be a walk in the park for the training staff and team physician. A second opinion is most definitely concerning but I wouldn’t sell for .75 cents on the dollar....maybe .90 cents though.

Or it could just be people jumping to conclusions without reading the whole article.  They are getting a second opinion on how to treat it, not that he's going to get it tested again because they think it's a really bad injury.

Cleveland announcers just said Lindor heading to Green Bay to see an ankle specialist on Monday. We knew that already, but they also said Francona said there isn’t much pain in the ankle, they just want to be sure it’s not a recurring injury. The announcers speculated that the specialist visit is simply precautionary and that the team wouldn’t give them more info despite their digging

Lindor Owners are thinking Monday can't get here soon enough.

This injury really discounted Lindor's price.  He literally went from a near consensus #3-4 pick to 15+ and hasn't recouped that value in spite of the fact that this looks like a minor injury to a superstar.  I think the window for buying this discount is rapidly closing but a smart manager might still be able to get a good deal.

I've been trying to move him -- for other good players, of course -- and no one is biting. Perhaps, it is for the better and I am being rash.

I, however, disagree with you. At this point, there's a lot of other guys I would take just beyond the 15th pick. This latest injury may not be all too serious but the calf strain has great risk of being recurrent. Lindor derives a good bit of value from his lower extremities and, at the moment, both are compromised. The big question is whether he'll be overly protective of them upon returning?

so he was running bases full speed and playing what 7-10 days worth of minor league games before he rolled an ankle? don't see how an extra week + is anything but a plus for lindors calf.

I threw out an offer of my lindor and luccehi for bregman then thought better of it and not be in such a rush. we all drafted lindor with the expectation he was going to miss the first few weeks of the season. nothing really has changed (yet)

It’s NOT going to be just an extra week.   4-6 wks more is quite conservative I’d say.  You don’t get second opinions with specialists for a rest up 1 week prognosis.     Whether it is diagnostic or for alternative treatment, seeing a specialist hints to a complicated course.

You are right that it's not just going to be an extra week, but you actually have no idea how long he'll actually be out.  I can't say with 100% certainty you are completely wrong as I'm not with the team, but you are talking as if it's an absolutely awful ankle injury and that they are going to see a specialist because in reality his foot came completely off when he sprained the ankle (ok, maybe a little drastic, but definitely complicated).

Like I've already said in this thread, yes, he's going to see a specialist on Monday.  No, the team has not said it's for anything other than figuring out the best way to treat it.  We'll see after his trip on Monday, but so far amputation doesn't seem to be on the table.

From:

https://www.cleveland.com/tribe/2019/03/cleveland-indians-francisco-lindor-will-get-second-opinion-on-left-ankle-monday.html

“The way it has been explained to me,” said manager Terry Francona, “is they know what he hurt and where he hurt it and all this. The challenge is – and they’ve had some experience with Michael Brantley – is it doesn’t hurt that much. But if you re-injure it, it can really set you back.”

Brantley missed most of the second half of the 2017 season with a right ankle injury that required surgery after the season.

“I think they just felt like having the best (doctor) look at it made sense,” said Francona. “I commend them for it. Shoot, man, I think that’s always a good thing to do.”

------------

If you remember, Brantley sprained his ankle in August 2017. They brought him back about 7 weeks later, in time for the playoff series vs the Yankees. But by the winner-take-all game 5, Brantley was unable to play in the game.  Turned out he needed surgery in the offseason to stabilize ankle ligaments, and wasn't even fully ready for spring training 2018.   Though he felt good to go for those playoffs, he obviously wasn't, and I'm sure CLE wondered if Brantley coming back too soon made it worse.  Hopefully as far as Lindor goes, they are just being extra cautious due to what happened with Brantley, and not thinking he has the same severity of injury.  We will see.

Should we be scared that nothing has come out yet? Or am i just panicking here?

Either way, someone please hold me.

I think we should be bracing for some bad news today -- this is the vibe I'm getting.

I'm trying to be optimistic that there's nothing really being said by team because there isn't anything to really say....hoping it's nothing significant.

They said they will address it today.

If it isn't a keeper league I'm not giving up anything that good to get him. Even before the ankle injury as said that calf could be an issue.

If this second opinion happened Monday why haven't we heard yet ? Usually something is out the same day or at least this morning.

Much of his value is steals . And a calf and ankle injury will sap his power. This isn't looking good even if the report comes back somewhat positive . I passed on a trade to get him with only a year left on his contract.

Regrettably, I agree with you. I went against my principles that which I drafted after the Corey Seager fiasco last year -- don't bother with players who have existing injuries. Within reason, of course. If the discount is massive, by all means, go for it. But the slight discount I got Lindor at in my draft, which occurred in the time frame between the two injuries, will probably not go down as good value.

I think it's weird we haven't heard anything. I was anticipating news yesterday. It's like they're trying to conceive of the best way to tell the fanbase the face of the franchise won't be on the field for a while.

Or..... "Oh, yeah....forgot to tell you guys....it's not much to worry about, he'll be back in two weeks." -Francona  :)  🤞

The fact that there isn't much pain gives me some hope. Just because of what Brantley went through they're being cautious. I hopeful still.

maybe. only if lindor comes back and doesn't steal which is a possibility. if lindor comes back and is a top 5 player then that 10-20 pick discount will pay dividends. just hope lindor owners didnt use first rd pick on him

glass half full love lindor owners sitting = with Stanton, machado, benny, so far ha

I get the redraft gripes, but in a keeper/dynasty league, ya just gotta wait things out and hope he returns soon and healthy. I can't see getting fair value for him in a trade right now, and personally I wouldn't want to move him anyway if he's expected to make a full recovery.  That elite power/speed combo doesn't fall off trees for SSs.  I really don't even mind him missing a month or so of the season if he eventually returns to form.  Admittedly, him not being able to steal bags like you'd expect from him is a bit worrisome, especially with the unlikeliness that he's going to hit as many bombs as he did a year ago.  But the guy is young and should be a stud when he's healthy.  It's possible the ankle injury could be a blessing if he was going to re-injure the calf anyway coming back too early.  Time will tell, but I'm optimistic they aren't going to rush him back and that we're going to get the Lindor we were hoping for when we drafted/traded for him.  It would just be nice if it happened by this summer and didn't nag him all year!
