O.J. Howard 2019 Outlook

Njoku is interesting. Playing with Baker Mayfield I definitely think he could leap into the upper echelon of receiving TEs.

If you could draft Njoku after Howard had been drafted I think that would be a steal cause there is a real chance Njoku could outperform Engram and Howard in fantasy.

problem with Njoku is people have been waiting 2yrs for his breakout

rookie season he couldnt catch the ball, sophmore season his blocking was terrible which made him a liability on the field. Baker is a pocket passer with some mobility and the run game is critical to the offense so the TE has to be able to block well which njoku didnt do

this year he has to make a skill leap and be able to produce on every snap.

I wouldnt call him a steal I would say he is valued fairly based on his potential upside

Njoku is already the most overvalued TE.  Do you really expect him to get better with a smaller target share?  He was awful last season in his 2nd year.

He was the #8 TE last year. That's the thing; They are all 'awful' to some degree after the first few. Might as well just wait till the end of the draft.

He was #9 and it was because Gronk, Howard, and Engram all missed 4+ games and finished slightly behind him.

Enter Odell Beckham and the fact that Njoku really hasn't shown anything in his first 2 seasons.  Yeah, no thanks.

To me that's more of a reason NOT to wait til end of the draft.

Great analysis.

Maybe you don't realize Njoku played 16 games last year and had maybe 4 games that you would have considered fantasy start worthy.

He even recorded a 0 target game in a game he played 53 snaps.

That's your 7th round pick.

I thought Njoku was going to be a 9th rounder.

PFF’s Candidates to be 2019's Overall Fantasy TE1

oh how you play the clickbait game for your guy. . .🤣

THE LONGER SHOTS

Hunter Henry

O.J. Howard

THE TOP 20 TIGHT ENDS ON (VERY SUBJECTIVE) LIKELIHOOD OF FINISHING AS TE1 ONLY

(Quick caveat here: Getting to 20 tight ends with an actual shot at finishing as No. 1 is hard. Don’t get mad at me if my No. 18 tight end isn’t a realistic candidate. There are a lot of unrealistic candidates down there.)

1. Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs
2. Zach Ertz, Philadelphia Eagles
3. George Kittle, San Francisco 49ers
4. Hunter Henry, Los Angeles Chargers
5. O.J. Howard, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
6. Jordan Reed, Washington
7. Tyler Eifert, Cincinnati Bengals
8. Eric Ebron, Indianapolis Colts
9. Evan Engram, New York Giants
10. Jared Cook, New Orleans Saints
11. Delanie Walker, Tennessee Titans
12. Trey Burton, Chicago Bears
13. David Njoku, Cleveland Browns
14. Jimmy Graham, Green Bay Packers
15. Greg Olsen, Carolina Panthers
16. Vance McDonald, Pittsburgh Steelers
17. Austin Seferian-Jenkins, New England Patriots
18. Chris Herndon, New York Jets
19. Jack Doyle, Indianapolis Colts
20. Noah Fant, Denver Broncos

Ooooh nice list.  A dirt cheap platoon of Graham/McDonald/Cook might work.

OJ Howard is not going to sneak up on anybody this year.  If he is being valued as the number 5 overall TE, he will be pricey to acquire.

If you want him that late, you should applaud Shark’s tireless efforts (and my own) to drive down his current ADP.

Apparently it’s working!  You’re welcome!

Reed is like a drug I just cant quit. Traded for him last year and the most impressive play he had was chasing down a defender and stopping a pick 6 lol

Do we really think reed has a chance this year with the possible qb conundrum in DC?

I don't. Reed is 1 concussion away from retiring.

I chased Reeds production for a couple years after his fantasy championship run he and Kirk cousins had for me a few years ago. He has been a complete disapointment since that season.

Thats not my list, that is the list from the link Lamont posted but to answer your question, I like a healthy Reed on a wash offense which has no wr's of consequence. so he is worth a flyer if i cant find a better rb/wr/te option on the board and i would look to take hime after njoku but before trey

The difference this year is Reed is basically free and you can just drop him for a similar TE if it doesnt pan out.

3. Everything around Kittle is changing.  He gets a different QB who likes different receivers.

5. Winston likes throwing to Brate.

6. Who is the starting QB? Who is the RB? What is the plan here?  Random name on a list?

7. Nobody is drafting Eifert as their TE1.  Get him in later rounds as a backup.  Drop him when he goes on IR.

8. Ebron was the pre-season target winner last year.  That's how I pick my TEs.  Always works.

9. Engram was a primary target as a rookie when ODB was injured. No ODB gets Engram more targets.  Tate is not ODB.  Corey Coleman is probably a bust.

16. ABs TD catches go somewhere.  Jesse James moved to Detroit.  Watch pre-season targets from Roethlesberger. It works.

I know Kyle Rudolph doesn't want a pay cut, but he's not retiring.

I love your take re: George Kittle, and cannot believe more people aren't talking about this. Dude is a great player, no doubt, but the perfect storm of variables that came together for him last year were eerily similar to Evan Engram's rookie season. The guy was virtually the only player that was targeted on that team--Kendrick Bourne was second on the team in targets with 67. McKinnon never played a snap and is back this year, Marquis Goodwin missed 5 games and went from 105 targets the year before to 44 last year, Dante Pettis totaled only 45 targets with virtually all of them coming in the last 6 games (he will be a much bigger factor all season this year) and the niners added Tevin Coleman in free agency and spent significant draft capitol on Deebo Samuel and Jalen Hurd. Add in a new QB in Jimmy G and I just don't think we will see Kittle come close to his target share from last season. It's not to say he still isn't a high-end TE1, because he most certainly is, but I would not be surprised in the slightest to see OJ outperform him if he stays healthy.

Since this is the OJ Howard thread let’s focus on #5. Could you please expound on the significance of “Winston likes throwing to Brate” with regards to OJ Howards historical, statistical success, or lack thereof, while playing alongside Brate?
