Injury happened March 22.  Don’t know why anyone would drop him if they didn’t have an open IL spot.

A lot of teams drafted after the injury happened. In anything 12 and under he would either go late late or not drafted.

I drafted him even with the injury.  Hopefully he returns soon

I hope they're not rushing it and he can keep his power stroke...

It's a pain-tolerance issue at this point, and he is using an axe-handle bat, which should ease the pain when he makes contact.

Now taking batting practice and on pace to head out for a rehab assignment Thursday.

How long does it usually take to get back to full power with this type of injury?

Varies. Tulo had hamate injury and didn't miss a beat. Hit for tons of power post injury. Others came back and couldn't get going.

Pain tolerance is a major factor from what I understand.

Still a fine dynasty target?

Why would his dynasty value be affected one bit in the least?

If the injury was one with long term consequences, which this doesn't seem to be.

Thought I would check in on our guy, since I'm desperate for offense.

So far 0/7 with 1BB:0K. Nothin yet... looks like it will take a while.

I wish he remains on the DL... If he sucks (likely) then he just wastes a roster spot. For me he wouldn't crack my lineup as 1b or UTIL and he plays no other positions.

I think the thing to do is to see if anyone will bite on a sell-low trade. Like a low-end closer or mid-tier SP.

I guess 15 homers probably the ceiling. Comes with lousy AVG and no speed...

Very tough break.

And you think all this based on 7 AB's during his rehab?

Olson probably won’t be back to form right away given the nature of a hamate bone injury, but today is May 3. If it takes him all of this month before he gets going, that’s still 4 months of production. Even if he struggles until the all-star break, we’re talking about a guy who hit 20 HR in the 2nd half in 2017. Patience is going to be a virtue here.

Yep. This is a guy with Bellinger type power. He hit 24 home runs in 59 games in 2017.

papa smurf can do whatever the hell he wants with him. Ship him for Greg Holland or some wack a** s---, but I'm going to give him some time.

I'm curious what has changed for you since the preseason with this guy, and if you were so down on him then why did you draft him?

History of hamate injuries. In the long run players' power tends to come back, but it takes time.
I don't have a spot for him right now anyway, so it makes sense for me to look to trade for players that can help me in other areas now rather than wait a month, 2 months, or maybe the rest of the season to hit with reasonable power.

It might take time. But he might start raking. Not all people are affected the same with hamate injuries. Some players have come back like nothing happened. Would probably silly to not see how it goes, as he was a pretty high draft pick. But to each his own.

Opposite field homer with two outs in the 9th to tie the game tonight

But recovering hamate means he will never homer again?
