Kenta Maeda 2019 Outlook

Recommended Posts

Saw this in a Fantrax article this morning.  Kenta is in some elite company if he could just stay in the rotation all year.

(min. 120 IP), and you’ll see these familiar names.

Love Maeda when he plays.  It all comes down to how many starts he gets.  The LA staff is deep and we have learned that there's no issue with dropping a guy to the pen whenever the moon is angled right.  Lol note how there are four LA SPs on that list and none are named Kershaw.

Still, at ADP 231 (ranked 190 in Yahoo), I think there's value to be had here.

Three weeks later and he's still buried in the rankings. It would be surprising if he doesn't find a spot in the rotation IMO. There's definitely risk of getting pulled out but he's in a rotation that features uber injury prone guys like Kershaw, Ryu, and Hill. ADP at 240 based on Fantasy Pros Consensus, good for SP64 (aka SP6). This is insane value for a guy proven to put up solid ERA and WHIP numbers with a K/IP above 1 every season.

With the injury concerns surrounding Kershaw, it's a good idea to target the four undervalued Dodgers SPs: Hill, Ryu, Stripling, and Maeda. I'll be trying for 2 out of those 4. You gotta figure that 1 of them will last a full season. Maeda might be the best option considering his draft cost will likely be lowest of the four. BUY.

looks like Maeda is starting the season in the rotation.

Manager Dave Roberts indicated Wednesday that the Dodgers won't hold an open competition for any rotation spots in spring training, meaning Stripling will likely open the 2019 campaign in the bullpen, Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Clayton Kershaw, Walker Buehler, Rich Hill and Hyun-Jin Ryu were already assured starting gigs entering camp, and Roberts' declaration that Kenta Maeda would also begin the season as a starter leaves no spots left up for grabs. Given that all five pitchers spent time on the disabled list last season, the Dodgers will presumably keep Stripling, Julio Urias and potentially a few other arms on the 40-man roster stretched out in the likely event another healthy arm is needed in the rotation. Stripling should get the first look should an opening arise after compiling a 3.39 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 10.1 K/9 over 21 starts in 2018, earning an All-Star nod along the way.

Kenta Maeda will return to the Los Angeles Dodgers’ starting rotation next season, manager Dave Roberts said Tuesday.

Speaking at Major League Baseball’s Winter Meetings, Roberts said the Japanese right-hander would be used as a starter after being moved into a bullpen role for the National League West club this past season.

Love him but he's a pain in qs leagues.  Seemed like the king of the 5.2 outing.

But these days,  qs is rare in general so sign me up again
