NFL Draft Discussion 2019

Recommended Posts

It's almost here!  The 3rd best day of the year.  Let's get talking about the NFL Draft!

Just to get us started I going to make some bold predictions

1.  The Raiders take Ed Oliver at #4, and Josh Jacobs at either #24 or #27.

2.  The Giants actually take Daniel Jones at #6

3.  Tom Coughlin continues to draft poorly and takes an O-lineman at #7.

Given that he's a Jags fan, I'm guessing the day before the first pre-season game, and the day the season is over ;)

why? dave gettleman has made it entirely clear that eli is the man for the next five to six years. eli is a spry 38 and his career can only go up.

still, there's this: https://www.nj.com/giants/2019/04/nfl-draft-2019-3-reasons-daniel-jones-is-perfect-heir-to-eli-mannings-giants-throne.html

If you want some bold predictions btw, I really enjoyed this:

It's not really predictions, it's actual proper analysis, but it's definitely bold.

I keeping hearing there is a team "enamored" with Daniel Jones.  It would only make sense if it was Dave Gettleman.

Nah, bad teams usually dominate preseason.

Eh, Pats drafting is usually not that spectacular. I was going to say the AFC title game, Super Bowl Sunday and the day I get to do the horizontal Lambada with the missus (*)

(*) Although that doesn't happen every year, unfortunately.

Wonder if Daniel Jones can compete against Eli in the MVP race for "stupidest looking face" behind GOAT Jay Cutler in that category.

Hopefully the raiders do something dumb like take Haskins at 4

We should have a informal wager pool on who makes the stupidest decisions in the draft this year.  I'm guessing the Raiders could achieve the trifecta of stupid but something tells me another team will take the top spot.  Once upon a time you could count on at least 1 or 2 stupid things from the Browns each draft but it looks like the Giants might be looking to assume that role.

Nothing will beat Rivers.

I think the Raiders will trade or draft a QB. Carr is not the answer.

I would like to pick the Redskins, Bengals or Bucs. Those three are a constant source of comedy material.

But nobody will ever be able to match the Saints 1999 draft. I mean, that's a bonehead trade for the ages.

The Vikings screwing the pooch in 2003 will always rank near the top of epic draft day snafus:

http://www.espn.com/nfldraft/columnist?id=1545117

"The Vikings were forced on Saturday to make a rare "pass" on their first-round choice, the seventh pick overall, when they were unable to complete a proposed trade with the Baltimore Ravens before the 15-minute time limit lapsed. By taking a "pass," the Vikings delayed their choice, but were permitted to then make it at any ensuing time. But in frenzied flury in the minutes immediately following the Minnesota move, Jacksonville, choosing No. 8 overall, rushed in its card to pick quarterback Byron Leftwich. In lightning time after that, Carolina jumped in to choose offensive tackle Jordon Gross. Minnesota finally exercised its pick at the No. 9 slot"

...and their misstep the year before just made matters worse for the Minnesota brass:

"Last year, the Vikings were involved in another awkward situation. That day, the Dallas Cowboys traded down from No. 6 to No. 8, and the clock appeared to run out on their trade partner, the Kansas City Chiefs. The Vikings, choosing at No. 7, attempted to submit the name of defensive tackle Ryan Simms, but were told by league officials the Chiefs had legally handed in their card to take the North Carolina star."

I think Haskins at 4 is a much better pick than Murray at 1.

I don't really think so. But we shall see. Murray would be the consensus #1 prospect in the entire draft class if he was 6'2" or taller.
