Hansel Robles 2019 Outlook

Any idea what his role will be moving forward?

Been discussed thoroughly in the closer thread, but I think most people agree that it's between Buttrey and Robles for first crack at the closer job. Based on recent (including last night) useage, I would handicap the next save opportunity as something like 2:1 in favor of Robles over Buttrey. How it goes from there depends entirely on performance.

He will get the first chance. He's an extreme flyball pitcher with a career 3.87 ERA. He has a propensity to give up big hits. We shall see how that plays in the highest leverage spot.

His fastball is nasty AF.

Control/command have been better so far. So he's been putting up the #'s to this point. Its usually when he loses it that all hell breaks lose on him. Since his slider is pedestrian its really all about his 70+ grade fastball.

Sooner rather than later it will be Buttrey's job, unless they would rather use him as like a Josh Hader and use in the highest leverage situations.

He also has a propensity to to point to home runs flying in the air as if they are a playable pop up.

I watched last night, didn't think Buttrey looked that great, seems Robles looks pretty filthy lately though.

does it impact whether Robles will be used more as the opener? can't close when you open the game.
