Anyone have any insight if Strop will get back in the mix for saves when he is activated?

IF cishek continues to close the door, not sure why he would be removed from the role, other than the maddon factor

So much for Greene getting traded soon. Gave up 5 runs to the Marlins. Some unearned because of an error.

MLB teams aren’t going to overreact that much to one outing. Likewise, his strong start up until today probably didn’t change many minds either.

Greene is a good but not great RP and he’ll get dealt when someone is ready to pay what that’s worth, which will probably be closer to the trade deadline.

Elias still has the only Mariners' save in recent memory. So I guess we have to assume the next opp goes to him. Although you do have to wonder if a chance will eventually go to Sadzeck, who someone else mentioned earlier in the thread. Sadzeck is basically the only pitcher in the pen who hasn't been a complete gas can.

Maybe no one labeled them as closers until Eck, but he was not the first closer ever. The concept was known. Eck just popularized it. Gossage had 270 saves from 1975 to 1986, and he only led the league in saves three times during those 12 seasons. And in 1976, Gossage was a SP.

Then tell official baseball historians that.  Because Tony LaRussa invented the term "closer" and Eck was the first one according to them.  Before that ALL relievers that got saves were also former starters.  That is no new news.  But the  ewas no "closer" until Tony LaRussa came along.

I hear the sounds of Touki's footsteps getting closer and closer.  Always go with the talent long term...

I think those were the footsteps of runners after his walk and wild pitch...

If you watched the game you could see he was basically all over the place.

And this board has proven the opposite of your statement year after year. NEVER go with talent over the guy with the job.

I do get what he's all about.  He will walk a tightrope from time to time but his situation reminds me a great deal of Jordan Hicks from last year.   And since no one in that Braves' bullpen is running away with anything yet I think he's put his name in the mix (albeit down a bit right now) with his last 4 outings.   I think we see him get into a few more holds situations now and if does well then he's going to be a consideration going forward.

You can actually say that about any reliever in any unstable bullpen but like Hicks mentioned above Touissant has the best overall stuff and that could win out in the end...

Certainly open for disagreement on this though...
