Really? You think someone is going to trade for Romo?

Why not? He's a major league arm with extensive bullpen experience. He won't bring in much in return but lots of less than desirable fantasy pitchers get moved to deepen a pitching staff.

Is Alvarado ever coming back? It has been nearly a month.

Was just wondering the same thing because he was dropped in my league and I'm thinking about adding him but don't have the space to stash for long.

Alvarado was supposedly throwing a bullpen, and they hoped he'd only need one simulated game or rehab appearance. Not sure what happened there, but I'd add him if only because he has a clear path to saves now.

Any news on Strickland besides the report on Monday the 17th that he was cleared to resume throwing? I'm really looking for a timeline since he's taking up a DL spot that could be used for others. I'm still holding out hope that he comes back and overtakes the role at some point.

No clue, but I'm in the same situation. If I see anything...

edit: I'm reading both the Nats and Brewers have interest in Strickland, when I search for info on his injury. He would have resumed throwing a few days ago.

Davis has been real bad. Oberg is alright...someone needs saves in Colorado.

Kennedy in KC is racking up saves.

Kelly in the mix for saves

question:

bad closer on a good team

or

decent closer on a bad team?

Come on Davis.

Saves are a fickle beast.

Decent closer on a bad team. Bad teams only have a small decrease in SV opportunities which has been discussed over and over again.

I literally had to choose between Wade Davis and Ian Kennedy myself last week.  Went with Kennedy and it wasn't that tough of a choice.

Skimmed through the last two pages but didn't find much on Liam Hendriks.

Is he the closer for the A's now? Is he worth rostering w/ potential to be full time closer?

I know Treinan was so good last year and has nasty stuff, and I've been out of the country for the last week so I wanted to see your guys thoughts

Yes and yes.  Go get him.

I think he's the guy. He was in the first post Treinan attempt too. His stuff has really trended up this year. Near a 30% strikeout rate on the year and a 1.06 WHIP.

In his save conversion Saturday:

He threw 8 fastballs all between 97-99+ MPH with gross vertical action on it, 7 were strikes with 4 swings and 2 whiffs

SL is the main secondary and it grades as a plus weapon, with both vertical and horizontal break, threw just 2, both for strikes and whiffs with it.

My personal belief is that there is something rather wrong with Treinan, and has been for a bit. I think it will be an extended absence and Hendriks takes off as an upper level type of closer with many saves.

I could see Lou Trivino compete for saves too.  Honestly, when Trivino is on his stuff is almost as nasty as Treinan's.  My only concern with Trivino is he seems easily put off his game when things don't go well.  Not sure if he has the mental toughness to be a closer long-term.

I think he's definitely a guy that some contenders will target if he is pitching well. Will probably only cost a marginal prospect and could fill an important role as specialist against RH hitters. Certainly won't be closing anywhere, though, unless its a stray save here or there in a committee situation.

And the fact that he’s been bad this year. 5.00 ERA, 1.53 WHIP. Wheels have fallen off here.

They had pulled Lou from high leverage roles a couple days prior to Blake going down. It's not going to be Trivino.

Gant was great up until last night.. Do i dare even mention a dart throw at good ol C-Mart, or are we heavily leaning Gant?

Wondering if he has a source on this as far as Gant closing or if its just speculation. Gant did just get his brains beaten in last time out and CMart has been good in the role before. Don't think this is a given...although I'd add either one if they out there. (I'm a hopeful CMart owner)

Agree. Cmart is the play. Closermonkey agrees.

June 24, 2019

St. Louis Cardinals – The Cardinals announced that Jordan Hicks has a torn UCL. We think Carlos Martinez will now be the lead option to close, but John Gant could get some save opportunities as well.

Updated hierarchy: *Martinez | Gant | Miller.
* = closer-by-committee

although we all read the statement made for gant by the gm the other day
