2019 June Closer Thread

This time in the merry-go-round 9th for the Red Sox Barnes is in with a one run lead to try for the save.  Gives up a lead-off single but Christian Vasquez saves him gunning down the runner trying to steal.  Second batter promptly gets a hit.  Real battle with Abreu next fouling off pitch after pitch.  Then Abreu takes him deep as Barnes blows up.  Barnes just looks tired these days.

I had him mostly for ratios and the occasional save but his ratios the last 30 days have been garbage. Ks have been his saving grace but I’m out at this point. The ROS closer for Boston is not on their team right now anyway.

Is Stammen the next guy up if Yates is traded?

Probably not.  He has been garbage.

I would think Wingenter - not that they would trade Yates, though.

Cant see Yates being traded.

Me neither.  While they may not make the playoffs, they are close enough to being a playoff team that they shouldn't be sellers (and I'm sure they know that).

David Bell is dead set on getting that square peg into the round hole, even if it takes him all season to do it.

I can’t imagine a team making a play for Smith not trying to land both Smith and Watson. I really see them moving as a pair.

Why???Of course it would be great to get both guys but it all depends on what the Giants can get for them together vs separately...

And yet Bell's bullpen numbers are still tops in the league...

I think it's called fantasy butt hurtedness...

If the bullpen is that good then there’s no reason to make the numbers worse and cost yourself games by misusing a component of it.

I don’t think it’s called common sense, I know it is.

Luke Jackson? Or Minter? This ANOTHER platoon closing situation in baseball again?

Jackson had been used in 3 of the previous 4 games.  He’s likely still the guy, but I’ll be watching this situation closely.  If Minter is right, the Braves may have an in-house solution.
