Scraping the bottom of the barrel here... Gotta think it's a team whose barely in the WC hunt and just wants to look like they're trying but doesn't want to give up anything significant. Looking at you, Mr. Huntingdon...

Edit: Or Mr. Beane...

I don't think people realize how utterly decimated the Oakland rotation is. Homer Bailey is somehow an actual arm that can help them.

Damn right. Since June covering seven starts he has a 3.49 ERA  and some have the nerve to think otherwise.

From his last start in May until now, Bailey has been pretty good (3.35 ERA, 1.28 WHIP). Whether he can keep it up or not is another question, but if he can, this is a decent addition to their rotation. He's lacked consistency, but who hasn't.

Everyone doesn't have the money your Phillies has either. Considering Oakland as a small market team, they do pretty damn good, IMO...

Oakland is now the only team in baseball with two starting pitchers who have thrown multiple no hitters.

Might be the best rotation in the game.

Yeah, I was thinking more along the lines of the Pirates when I wrote my post, and didn't see that it was the A's until after I posted.  Makes more sense for Oakland.

On the other hand, a lot of middling to bad starting pitchers look serviceable in arbitrarily chosen seven or eight start stretches.  I give the Oakland organization more credit than to think they'd be so silly as to acquire Bailey based on those surface numbers in a tiny sample.  It certainly helps the club to replace someone or something named Tanner Anderson with a seasoned veteran innings eater like Bailey, and the price (league minimum) is certainly right, but small market or not (all 30 teams are very profitable, don't let their phony accounting say otherwise), this isn't the kind of move a team that believes they're a player or two from a championship makes.

This is so the Mets:

Quote

Mets placed RHP Zack Wheeler on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to July 12, with right shoulder fatigue.

This comes with very bad timing for the Mets, who had been dangling Wheeler in trade talks with a number of clubs. He will be eligible to return next Tuesday and may be able to fit in a start or two before the July 31 trade deadline, but the health of his shoulder could obviously hang over any negotiations. Steven Matz will pitch in Wheeler's place this week against the Twins.

They can't even trade a pitcher before he gets injured yet again.

Hands off Mets, he belongs to Cleveland in a Bauer deal.

That pretty much rules out the Yankees getting Noah then.

Jon Morosi of MLB Network writes that Mike Minor is "increasingly likely" to be traded in the next two weeks.
The Rangers have begun to fall back in both the American League West and American League Wild Card standings, and so they'll probably be active sellers ahead of the July 31 trade deadline just as everyone expected coming into the year. Minor should fetch a nice package of young talent for Texas given his 2.73 ERA and 121/44 K/BB ratio in 122 innings this season. He is under control through 2020. Morosi hears that the Brewers and Phillies are among the interested teams.

Jon Paul Morosi of MLB.com reports that the Padres "have emerged as the most serious suitor" for Trevor Bauer.
The Padres have been connected to Bauer since the offseason and evidently still have interest. It's still very much a question as to how motivated the Indians are to trade Bauer since they're currently in playoff position. However, it's possible that they'll consider it if they could acquire an impact hitter or two that's major league-ready. Franmil Reyes, Hunter Renfroe and Luis Urías would qualify. The Padres are four games below .500 and four games out of a Wild Card spot, but Bauer is under team control through 2020.

makes sense. SD could use another pitcher. Cleveland has a suspect outfield.

I am expecting for some better prospects to be moved this year.  Pitching is so thin and a lot of teams need it.

problem is, most pitchers are on WC teams at least, hell even Bumgarner and the Giants might not be sellers
