Is he cemented as a starter or would they consider using him as an "opener" or "primary pitcher" to limit his innings? Being an opener would be the worst case fantasy wise.

Maybe at the end of the season if he’s close to innings limit?

Ohhh I gotchya. I think that's silly how Yahoo does it.

Well to be fair, Yahoo doesn't want to do it that way.  Their code was just written years back never dreaming on two way players and it is in the core code and not an easy subroutine fix so they would have to basically re-write their entire fantasy baseball code to correct the problem.  The new team just getting into place now is considering just that but it would have to be done in the off season.  Meanwhile just own McKay (Pitcher) and don't worry about the hitting end this season unless you are in a super deep league of like 20 to 30 teams.

Oh cool didn't realize that. Ya I wouldn't bother with the hitter, not until he really develops at least.

And it is a lot on his plate to have him do both quite frankly.  He made his hitting debut tonight (July 1) and went 0 for 4.

And I honestly don't know why they are even messing with his hitting given they can't get all the bats they already have into enough games.

Thinking about rolling the dice with him against NYY, but if there’s one team that gives you pause, it’s that lineup.

Depends on where your ERA whip are at. Personally my pitching has been thumped all week so he cant make it any worse.

I'm going with him tonight as well.  TB can't hit Tanaka, so a Win will be very difficult, but I think he can pitch just fine against them.  If it was in Yankee Stadium, then I'd be more concerned.

Yankee stadium is like a video game launchpad after you get max upgrades on your franchise. These dudes could hit wiffleballs out of that park.

How did he look?

Fantastic. His only real trouble was the 5th when he gave up 4 straight singles. 2 of them found holes. Kid is so composed out there. Reminds me of a young David Price.

Optioned to triple AAA. I'm assuming he will be back after the all-star break.

No way he's not.  Bad ending to his start aside, he's been too solid and composed in his two starts not to.  Obviously not to mention the fact that they need him in their rotation after Glasnow's setback.

Confused by the move, unless it's so he can hit some since I doubt he'll pitch down there.  No reason to waste his innings there when he's likely going to be on a limit for the season.  Maybe it's just to get another arm in the bullpen for the final two games.

The demotion was strictly for two reasons:

1- Service time manipulation.

2- Having an extra arm in the pen until his next scheduled start because the Rays’ relievers are overworked and fatigued due to Cash’s overuse of using openers 2-3 times a week.

Service time manipulation wasn't a factor in sending him down.  It already happened.  Super 2 is past.  Staying don fro one week -- scheduled to come back on the 13th -- isn't doing anything in that regards.

It was reason 2 which is used with a lot of younger pitchers with options over the All Star break to keep them stretched out.  They give them a start over that period.  It usually won't be a whole lot of pitches, just a few innings probably, but it will keep him from stopping and starting up again.  And yes a reliever are being called up at the same time.  And the same thing will happen on a number of to ther clubs as well I'm sure where a starter who has options gets sent down over the break.

I think he'll be a solid once a week pitcher ROS. Average line of 6 inn, 2 ER, 4 K, 1.1 Whip.
