7/20 - GAME DAY THREAD

The shift should never be a thing.  Everyone should always bunt 100% of the time to the open side of the field.  Baffles my brain seeing a guy hit into a shift over and over and over. Like he just wastes his at bats. The Old saying from a story about Wee Willie Keller by Robert Ruark is called "hit um where they ain't"  They shift you, bunt to the open spot every single time, every single player and then the shift will no longer be a thing.

Teams are usually better off swinging for the fences with a lower average than bunting opposite the shift for a maybe infield single.

Urquidy really impressive so far did not expect him to be this hood, went with Yarbrough today because hes been on fire and had the better matchup. Yabrough actually got pulled with 75 pitches in 6 innings in a a shutout..

This came out of nowhere considering how badly he was rocked in his first two shots. I watched quite a bit of this game and he was in total control all night. I am guessing he bought himself another start.

Chavis now has "DTD" in Yahoo.  Anything happen to him during the game or anything from the broadcast?

Contracts for HR also pay much better. Until teams change the pay scale and reward players that hit singles it just doesn't pay from a player's perspective.

Every sport has eliminated the defensive side of it. Basketball is all about the  the 3 pointer, ticky tack foal calls on shooters  Baseball lowers the mound, brings in the fences and juices the balls. Football the defense is not allowed to hit anymore. can;t touch a QB or a WR after 5 yrds without it being a penalty. Hockey they allow the 2 line pass which open up the ice play 4-4 in overtime. NO sport for the last 40 yrs has EVER made rule that helps the defense.

There's more offense in every league, but the best team in every sport every year is usually a good defensive team.

The Indians' performance tonight so far against Junis is embarrassing.  I guess they forgot that Junis sucks...

Incredibly important game for the Nats tonight and who do they turn to protect a one-run lead in the 8th? Fernando Rodney. Ugh!

Yep and that will never change. Offense wins games but Defense wins championships.

They are talking about getting Greene from DET. That would be a HUGE upgrade

The Indians were shutout for the 8th time this year. Jose Ramirez went 0/4. Just saying.

NHL occasionally increases the size of goalies pads, but yeah, that's about it.

Laureano is in another planet right now.

Remember when Dustin Fowler was the CF of the future in Oakland? That ship has long sailed. Dustin will be lucky to be a platoon bat in LF at this point, but CF is well manned with this guy.

I'm assuming you are implying that Jose Ramirez still sucks, which you would be dead wrong.  This is the first game he's gone hitless in 12 games, and he didn't just get 1 hit in every game like some hitting streaks.  At least that's what I'm gathering since you made it clear the last two weeks in his thread.
