Josh Richardson 2019-2020 Outlook

Hello fellow rotos,

I'm curious how he'll do playing in philly.. considering he has tobias, Embiid, and Simmons... his value should take a hit. I drafted him 7th round I believe.

Owned him last year in h2h league, couldn't stand owning him. For those that actually owned him, they will know what I am talking about. I remember well he was awesome for the first few weeks then terrible for a very long stretch, the only thing that kept most from dropping him were his solid steals and blocks for a guard, but believe me they did not make up for his terrible shooting with low points, rebs, and assists as well. He did somewhat come on stronger after the break, but was massively inconsistent. He would rarely ever have a good week of 3-4 games, he would have like 1 great game and 2 duds way more often than not. I stayed away this year, Philly is pretty stacked and he will mostly be an afterthought on offense, but that may not hurt his value anyway which is tied to 3s, steals and blocks. I see his points dropping though and his turnovers dropping because in miami he did a lot more ball handling than he will in Philly.

Wondering the same thing...  Spent $14 in my auction league for him.  Hoping he can take a step forward since he won't be asked to do as much in the Philly offense.  I've never owned him and I've always wanted to, so I could end up hating the experiment.

I don't think he has much pressure like years past being in Miami. Like you mentioned as a guard he has the ability to help rack up a few steals and possible blocks on a weekly basis with the occasional 3 PTM. Itll be the first time owning this fella..

You took him in the 7th so I think you will be happy enough with his production there. If he doesn't shoot terribly, that is probably his floor for ranking purposes.  I owned him almost every season, and you may be on to something about last year having too much pressure. Last year he was hyped quite a bit because of his "featured role on offense" and being a more "primary ball handler" and I took him in the 5th (maybe even 4th)- you're right, I don't think that is what he is good at. He is a slasher and streaky shooter defensive specialist. He is probably best suited to a Covington role, and that seems to be what Philly is giving him. Who knows, he could thrive and produce top 30.

He was extremely frustrating last year. Not touching him unless he falls to like the 8th or 9th round. His production will go down too. He was basically the guy in Miami but he might actually end up being the 4th option in Philly. Efficiency and steals might go up but I'm expecting a steep drop off in scoring, assists, rebounds etc

You would never target him for those 3 categories to begin with.

I had him in one league and it kind of sucked.  But I think he'll be even better this year in Philly - lots of open catch and shoot.  He's an elite 3 point shooter.  Lots of catch and shoot. Now he doesnt have so much responsibility on offense the stocks will come back up.  I think he said specifically that he didn't focus as much on defense because he was supposed to be the guy on offense.  Too lazy to look for that quote.

He said in an interview that he was injured last year and wasn't himself. He said he was excited about being able to focus on defence, expect a lot of steals and blocks and 3's with a sprinkle of rebounds and assists. He is also expected to play the most minutes on the team I read somewhere as well. he may post top 35 value this year similar to what he did in 17-18 year.

He was pretty much allergic to the rim last yr, in the second half.

I'm not sure that will change especially with the spacing issues they have.

Agree. While is PPG are sure to take a hit, PHI has stated that they may use him as a passer at time and expect him to be “the go-to defender” when they need stops.

I think he’s got a great chance of averaging 1.5 Steals and close to 1.0 Block per game.

im guessing he’ll have EOY stats looking like this:

11.5 PPG, 1.7 3PM, 4.0 REB, 4.0 APG, 1.5 STL, 0.9 BLK

I am more optimistic about his scoring since Jimmy bulter and JJ redick is gone, someone is gonna need to take those shots and 3s.

i am expecting 14-15 pts per game.

I think with teams trying to offer help on the defensive end against Joel... may leave him a lot of room to attack the basket. I except his PPG to take a hit as well.

I owned J Rich last year (and a few years prior as im in a keeper league) and told myself to stay away. But after the trade to Philly im actually pretty Bullish on him this year. I think its a great fit for his skill set. with so many stars around him there's gunna be a lot less pressure for him to create and less focus on him from defenses. But the real key is that he will be able to put a lot more attention on the defensive end of the floor. this is where his real value is along with 3pms which I also see being higher this year do to the floor spacing the philly lineup is going to provide.

Kept him for $8 in my league and if he can average 2 3's 1 steal and 1 block a game ill be thrilled with the decision.

Is this the new norm? Because it’s not what I had in mind, was expecting a bit more assists (also especially that he’s the 2nd unit’s PG).

Drafted him in the 8th round. I knew he wasnt that good but rotoworld forums convinced me otherwise. Face palm for being s follower.

Uhh.. I'll take this line any night lol

Don't mind the overreactions since he truly was quiet in the 1st half.

FG% aside, he hasn't had a single bad game. Literally doing everything you'd expect out him, FG% included

Lol I’ve owned him for the past two seasons this year being my 3rd

im thankful the stocks are back , and I wouldn’t worry one bit. Once his fg% reaches 45%+ we’ll enjoy some top 30 weeks

I disagree. The high increase in TOs came unexpected. He hasn't been horrible, but I wouldn't say he's blowing my mind either. While it's still too early in the season & I understand that, but the high TOs is quite alarming. I play Roto so I can only speak to those who does as well.
