Chris Boucher 2019-2020 Outlook

Recommended Posts

Chris Boucher played 14 minutes with five rebounds, eight rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block against the Pelicans on Friday.

Coach Nick Nurse said Serge Ibaka (ankle) has a "pretty bad" sprain, so Boucher is likely ready to see minutes. Nurse has talked up Boucher all offseason and has said he could play him at three positions, but now he'll be getting heavy burn as the backup five. He's already averaging a block per game this year in just six minutes per, and last year he put up ridiculous per-36 stats of 20.5 points, 12.4 boards, 1.3 steals, 5.3 blocks and 2.6 treys in a 163-minute sample. He's obviously not getting 36 minutes, but his per-minute output makes him a grab in standard leagues until Serge is healthy.

Anything to see here?

Having watched Boucher a lot last year in the other leagues, he is a special talent.

This is a dude that can produce across the board, and his value will likely lay in the REB and BLKS categories.

With Ibaka out, Boucher just might be looking at an 18-20 MPG role, with Gasol likely getting the remaining 25-28 minutes.

His stats might not jump off the page, but wouldn't be surprised if we see a good handful of 8 PPG / 7 REB / 1.5 BLK kind of games.

Definitely gotta have him scooped up in 16 and + leagues.

Someone already grabbed him in my 12-team competitive league, but I'm fine just watching.

Any validity in him somehow playing three positions and backing up all of the Raptors' frontcourt (OG, Pascal, Gasol)?

Larry Sanders returns? With potential for maybe 1 3

Just keep in mind he's 27. What you see is likely all you'll ever get.

Gleague stats:

28 games, 34mpg, 51% FG, 76% FT, 2.2 3pg, 27ppg, 11rpg, 1.2 spg, 4.1 bpg

I don't know how much of these stats will translate well in the NBA but seems like the blocks are certainly going to be there based on his stats from last season. Rebounds will likely be good as well. His potential to be solid in %s, points, and 3s(?) make him a really hot pick up.

His foul rate seems high from last season but I assume he was subbed in to intentionally foul which could be a factor.

Pick him up if he's available.

If he's available and people in your league are still sleeping, grab the GLeague MVP and DPOY asap. While he's super skinny, he's got length and motor, plus he can stroke the 3.

If you're in a deeper league where he's likely gone, and you have a streaming spot, consider keeping an eye on Rondae

With ibaka out for a while is he worth a look!?

Not really lol, in deep leagues he is. Dude is as valuable as Boban, maybe a bit less.

That's pretty low and I disagree with Ibaka being out for a couple weeks. The raptors have a pretty versatile roster but this could be viewed as an opportunity to see what he can do with the big boys now. I dropped Reddick since he looks pretty washed up these days so I'll go for the speculative add.

He is not as match up based as Boban. He can be a part in the every game rotation. I play in a 16 team league so I grabbed him immediately as a rebs and blks specialist. On a 10 teamer I would not drop anything valuable.

There's a reason that the only time he's cleared 15 minutes in an NBA game was the last game of the regular season last year. If you're hoping a guy with minutes in the teens can find fantasy relevance, good luck. Deep league add at this point and that's it.

I expect some blocks, rebounds and a whole lot of foul trouble.

His slender frame is not built to bang with bigger centers for 30+ minutes and that's assuming he'll stay out of foul trouble. Temper expectations.
