2010 MLB Draft

Recommended Posts

Something new for this year, based on feedback from last couple of seasons - given the increasing popularity of the MLB draft for all owners, for Draft Day 2010 (June 7th), we'll have a dedicated Draft Day thread for the Main Forum, for Day 1. Once Day 1 is complete, the Draft Day 2010 thread will move back to the MILB Forum, and stay there. Keep in mind the same rules for MILB discussion apply other than for this thread on Draft Day (MILB players with no prior MLB experience and no confirmed imminent callup date are for the MILB Forum).

One other important reminder - once the draft starts, no paid content info from other sites (free content is fair game, of course). And again, after Day 1, the thread moves back to the MILB Forum!

Courtesy of BA's 2010 Draft Order (free content), here's the draft breakdown for Day 1, we'll try to keep it updated too.

First-Round Picks

1. Nationals

2. Pirates

3. Orioles

4. Royals

Familiar top 4 there. I think the Nats have made it pretty clear they're taking Harper. Who goes second?

I'm also curious if MLB will toss the slot numbers out the window after this year. Seems as though they're becoming more and more irrelevant each year and if teams continues to ignore them then what's the point of having them? Maybe slot numbers make sense for rounds 2 and later but in round one it's pay up or shut up these days. Thanks Boras.

Excited for it...I'm a HS coach and my catcher (committed to Holy Cross) has drawn interest and gotten phone calls from the Marlins, Marliners, and Orioles. Would be an amazing accomplishment if he was to be drafted...coming from such a small school in such a small town in PA! Good luck to all being drafted.

That's awesome to hear man. You must be really proud, congratulations to you both. I also went to a small HS back in the day, so it was a huge deal when one of our pitchers got taken by the Expos late in the draft one year. Yeah, it was late, and it was the Expos, but the whole school knew about it and we were stoked LOL

2nd Pick

PIT Jameson Taillon RHP

Nice case of misdirection, PIT was saying all along last 2 weeks they wanted Machado. Can't argue either choice, top 3 went in top 3 spots (Machado vs. Taillon was hotly debated), now it gets interesting. Didn't see Colon going at 4, though.

KC Christian Colon- SS

And the Royals screw up again....

Wouldn't be shocked if the Mets took Chris Sale since he is one of the most major ready pitchers.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Colon sucks. Typical Royals' pick.

Sale's stuff looks nasty, but has a very violent delivery and frail frame. He's big injury risk imo.

Yea, I think if he holds up he will be great his fastball has a lot of downward movement from what I've seen great ground ball pitcher.

8th Pick

HOU Delino DeShields Jr- CF

Kind of reminds me of Dee Gordon, speed is his best weapon and reall doesn't have a position set in stone.
