What do you think of the trade I made?

Recommended Posts

Dynasty keeper league 12 teams. I traded Maurice Jones-Drew and my 3rd round pick for Jahvid Best and two 2nd round picks. Seeing as MJD is 25 and has had two 300 carry seasons in a row I think it's time for him to slow down. He will be 26 next year, getting old for a RB. Best exploded onto the scene before turf toe injury made his rookie season mediocre. He is just 21 and the feature back of the up and coming Detroit Lions offense.

Opinions?

I think you made a bad trade, to be honest. MJD is two days YOUNGER than Adrian Peterson, and has 57 fewer carries than AP despite having one extra season in. Also, they are similar sizes. But no one worries about APs workload. I think the same applies here. Despite two higher workloads recently, MJD still has only averaged 228 for his career. I think there's more than enough gas left in his tank.

I'd be concerned with AP's work load too if I had him. Running backs get worn out fast and Best has the potential to be a superstar. It was risky, but could easily pay off giving me a top RB for the next 5 years or so.

If it was me I'd have kept MJD. He is still a top 5 keeper RB, and put up more than serviceable stats this season with a busted wheel. I think he improves on this past season next year and finishes solidly... Best is boom or bust, hopefully he booms for ya!

I would of kept MJD. he catches way more passes than AP. Jones-Drew is the Jags main offensive player and their workhorse. sure he had a hurt leg/knee but he'll be back for training camp and ready for the new season to roll around. Best is a streaky player, one week he'll put up nice numbers. then the next few times he will not do really much of anything. it is a risk play going with him. maybe deal him to an owner in need of a upgrade for their backfield, and see if they'll take a bite and add Best to their roster.

Idk... I prob would have tried to get Best for something a little less expensive myself. However, Ive been considering making a deal for Jahvid in my keeper league as well. Actually got offered Best and 5th overall rookie pick for Dwill. Im really considering it. I think Best can be a real impact player if he can get healthy nxt season. Kid is explosive and looking at 1st yr #'s from guys like Rice,Charles and McCoy, Jahvid Best actually out produced all 3 with turf toe on both feet in my non ppr league. With an improvement in the o-line and a healthy QB, J.Best could be a stud nxt season.

Its def risky but its Best's 1st yr in the league. He will only get better with time IMO. Way too early to write him off. Guy is gonna be a real dual threat!

....Best is another Reggie Bush type player...oh and he's injury prone too.

My concern as well. He may end up being big. But he's off to a rough start.

Also, calling a 26 year old RB old is somewhat bold. MJD is no Emmitt Smith. But Emmitt had nearly 2800 carries for over 11,000 yards and 93 TDs AFTER he turned 26. If that's shooting too high, Curtis Martin went 2100-9000 and 50 post-26. Neither was much bigger than MJD. Jerome Bettis (obviously much bigger) was 1990-7500 and 60.

Just three examples of three solid players post-26. Of course, speaking as someone in their early 40's, ALL NFL RBs are just kids! B)

That is if he can shake off the injury woes. If he can't he will become another Reggie Bush. And just keep falling victim to injuries going ahead.

Don't get me wrong I want to like Best, but MJD is a top 5 RB at 25 or 26 and I'm assuming his league is NOT PPR so that really hurts Best. Good Luck though!

I think he could be real big! Why do we just assume he's another Reggie Bush?? Bush was never a strong inside runner coming out of school. Best on the other hand, is quite gd at running inside. His biggest issue was turf toe on both feet last season. His running style reminds me more of CJ or Charles more than Reggie Bush. Idk... Just don't think its fair to give him the Bush tag so quick. His ypc were def a concern but sometimes it difficult to tell when a player is suffering from such an injury.

I was thinking the same thing. Thats a serious injury concern. I would prob make that deal.

I might have to agree with you on this one....his dynasty value has just taken a HUGH hit!

Yeah how's that trade looking now guys? "The news makes MJD a far less stable investment in Dynasty formats." A little turf toe injury does not cause a player to get the Reggie Bush tag. Injuries happen in the NFL and he should be healthy by next season and has the potential to be one of the elite running backs over the next few years. MJD on the other hand looks like a hot player to get rid of.

I wouldn't write MJD off just yet. But he's certainly riskier. So I guess it's worth taking the risk. But when you respond with "Yeah how's that trade looking now guys?", you just come off as snarky. I don't know if that was your intent, but that's how it reads. I would just sit back and say, "Whew -- caught a break there!"

I intended it to be snarky.

P.S. your team looks a lot like the guy I traded MJD to. He has Brees, MJD, CJ, Charles, Jennings, Wayne, Jackson, Finley

i think mjd is hands down the better player, i think the 2 second round picks even it out a bit, but still largely favors the team that got mjd

I think MJD is the better value for sure. He played almost a full season on that "bone to bone" knee and was still a top 10 rb. Now they are gonna fix his knee. He is a true tough guy and will be around for years whereas Best had trouble with his toes all year and had only two good games. I know turf toe is legit but it is clear who the more durable rb is.

I can see moving MJD now and this deal NOW makes more sense, but I think you could still pull in more for MJD than just Best and some non-1st round picks.

Best has already had surgeries on injuries to his elbow, shoulder, and hip in college and that's aside from the concussion and back injuries he suffered his senior year.

Now he's recovering form turf toe in both feet?

This doesn't scream MJD-type workhorse material to me.

What's next?
