Kyle Zimmer - SP KC

Recommended Posts

Just started researching this guy as a possible stash. The Royals are saving him now because they plan to use them late in the season. This doesn't sound like a cup of coffee type call-up, they plan to use him.

that's my royals...

"Royals prospect right-hander Kyle Zimmer has been shut down for 6-8 weeks due to a lat strain.

It's been a frustrating 24 hours for the Royals, who saw Yordano Ventura exit Monday's game with elbow discomfort. Zimmer has been limited to work in extended spring training so far this season and will now likely be sidelined until late July. He's just 22 years old, but it's a tough blow to his development. May 27 - 11:20 AM"

How the hell do you get a 6 to 8 week injury when you aren't even pitching in games? Wasn't the reason they were not letting him throw so they could preserve him so he doesn't get hurt from throwing? LOL. Royals are just horrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrifying with there pitching development. Whoever comes up with these "New age" methods of pitching decisions should be kicked in the nuts and fired. They obviously aren't working.

He might've been my favorite pitching prospect last year but his stock has taken quite the tumble. Won't have a fantasy impact until 2016. At this point I'd rather have Alex Meyer, Andrew Heaney, Robert Stephenson among others.

Unfortunate

I think he's been hurt all year and the Royals have been blowing smoke to the public. It was reported that he was having bicep/shoulder issues early in ST. Obviously the lat is a different area but you can't rule out a cascade injury.

Found this per CBS:

Royals pitching prospect Kyle Zimmer is expected to resume his throwing program around July 15, the Kansas City Star reports.

Zimmer, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2012 rookie draft, was shut down at the end of May due to a muscle strain in the back of his right shoulder. His winter throwing program also came to an abbreviated end due to shoulder soreness, and he missed spring training with biceps tendinitis. If his recovery goes well, the Royals plan to give Zimmer some work in the Arizona Fall League.

Sounds like Zimmer will be throwing in games sometime in May after "minor" labrum surgery this off-season. Really hope this kid can get a healthy season under his belt, absolute Ace-stuff if he can ever stay on the field.

I hope he can stay on the field too. He has some great stuff but he misses more time then Tulo and Cargo.

This is going to be a big year for him. He needs to stay healthy or perhaps he needs to be ticketed for the bullpen. It's a shame with the stuff he has.

He finally pitched in an actual game last night for Low A Lexington. 1.2IP 1K 1H 2BB

but all that really matters is that he played in a real game.

Struck out 5 batters in 2 innings pitched a few nights ago. This guy could re-establish himself as a top prospect IF he can stay healthy

Welp, so much for that

"the former University of San Francisco star suffered yet another injury setback Saturday when he left his outing early with another apparent shoulder injury."

That's a shame, had him for a few years, just lost patience with him. Sorry to here he is injured again. I wish him well.

How far does this guy fall in the prospect rankings? Or does his potential still keep him top 75 or so even with the injury problems?

If this guy was at least somewhat healthy over the last few seasons you would probably see him as a top 10 consensus prospect. Big time prospect with some extremely filthy pitches. You just have to hope he doesn't continue having injury setbacks to get labeled a dreaded future bullpen arm. He isn't that far off from being MLB ready if he could sustain a period of health.
