Julio Teheran 2014 Outlook

Recommended Posts

Advanced metrics are a good tool, but you do have to keep in mind their limits. Ricky Nolasco was the king of the, "He may have sucked this year, but he was just really unlucky... look at his xFIP!!!" And Jeremy Hellickson was always the reverse: his xFIP was always 4.5+ and he always turned in something just above 3.

But I wouldn't buy that hard into Teheran's start, regardless. He's not a 1.93ERA pitcher. He's about a 2.8 - 3.3, with a median expectation over 3 instead of under it. His xFIP is also being driven by a K-rate lower than any he has posted in his entire career. So that is also bound for a correction in a positive direction.

And that's the difference between reciting numbers and understanding them folks, A+ work good sir

Thank you.

His xFIP for last night's game was 2.33, for those of you keeping score at home.

Hopefully this April is going to be his worst month of the year just like last year. I want better. :D

tough matchup vs cueto.. hope he can handle it

He's facing the Reds lineup, not Cueto.

8 IP, 0 R, 5 baserunners, 5 Ks.

The Braves couldn't score a run for him unfortunately, so no W.

Only 94 pitches. I guess they are saving bullets for later in the year.

Is Teheran actually better without the big fastball?

It's scary how good the Braves staff has been. Nearly half a run better in ERA than the next squad: the Brewers.

All that with Minor and Floyd in the minors. An embarrassment of riches or material to make a run at a new/future third baseman? The only glaring weakness of the Braves in the minors. Not that they haven't tried to draft one. Salcedo may still bloom, but I doubt it.

Kimbrel has 2 blown saves, both teherans wins. Great timimg to suck by the consensus number 1 closer in fantasy.

some of the beat writers suspected a finger blister but if they let him stay in this long, he must've convinced the trainers he was fine.

maybe a blister?

Training staff came out and walked off the field, so I doubt it. Looks like just a bad outing

They are scoring the fourth run as earned...

is this a mistake? The runner advanced on Gattis' throwing error.

edit: nevermind. it was fixed
