Robert Covington 2015-2016 Season Outlook

Recommended Posts

I'm going to be wary of overdrafting him. He was a lifesaver last season for basically being an elite 3P shooter for free, and one of the few bright spots on that terrible Philly squad.

That being said, he was annoyingly benched by Brett Brown in the stretch right before the fantasy playoffs last season, who decided to throw some serious shade on him after basically carrying the team and preventing them from being blown out by 30 every night, and even taking teams like Memphis to OT. That stretch of benching alone was enough to make me wary of any decently skilled SF-SG that got added during FA.

Luckily, it seems like the only player that was added that could threaten his value is Nik Stauskas, who plays the SG position we were begging ESPN to give him all season. He played his best ball at SG, but if the SF minutes are there I'm sitll hopeful. However, knowing what happened to Henry Sims is enough to make me wary if Coach Brown suddenly turns on him over the summer.

They also have Jerami Grant at SF, who is very explosive and improved last year. Wroten, though more of a PG, played SG minutes too. I'm betting his Lordship still gets some run, but think his role shrinks a bit from last year, especially if they are winning. Gotta tank another year to get that franchise PG...or Ben Simmons!

But isn't LRMAM gone? Kind of negates Grant doesn't it

Covington will be sneaky good again this year. Bowen benching him last year was to protect their lottery pick. Covington will be one of the top scoring options in PHI, and I'm excited to watch him play all year. (HUGE 76ERS' FAN)

I'm looking forward to seeing if RoboCov can improve. Per-36, he was crazy solid on steals (1.8) and threes (3.1, and blocks (0.6) were nothing to sniff at either. I like these versatile guys.

I think he will be similar to Danny Green except more on TOs .

And terrible shooting %

Everyone seems to be forgetting that. I think the comparison should be Tevor Arivza lite...Not the guy you really want to be the lite version of but that's who I see him as.

Although his FGA were TOO high (10.8 pg) still annoying. I like my glue guys to shoot solid%. Maybe he can improve a little, but he will get attention, cause who else is going to shoot for them?

Yeah but most of them were 3pt atttempts, making over 37%. Over 2 threes a game made.

I'll take that easily for the right price if I have someone to anchor

Ariza is a really great comp. He is just Ariza on a crap team taking more contested shots in a lesser defined role.

Had a great 10 game run in Feb where his FG% didn't kill you. Should have a pretty secure 30+MPG role in PHI for this season between the SG & SF positions. Still young and improving and should be thought of as a core player on a 76ers squad that's still pretty devoid of talent. Will be interested to see where his ADP is at this fall. I'm assuming it will be low, which will make him a good bet to outperform.

His nickname is great BTW. Definitely sounds like a character straight out of Game of Thrones.

This guy reminds me of Dorell Wright and that fantastic season he had that came out of nowhere. Covington basically is the poor mans version. I am leery that he can duplicate the success he had last season. Plus that lineup can be considered stronger now so it might not be as cut and dry that he gets 28+ minutes nightly.

Okafor's low-post presence on offense could give shooters like him more open looks next season. We'll see.

Ranked 139 (as a PF) on ESPN right now...

As of now targeting him anywhere mid 6th+ in my 14 teams

I like Convington as a late round pick but my issue with him is his FG%. I build my teams around FG% players and he would destroy that on any given night.

Easy decision, if you need 2 3's, about 1-2 stls, and about 10-15 ppg with bad TO's/FG% covington is your guy. Covington is capable of getting you 5 3's or 5 stls and even some blks on some nights but in some games you question why he's on your team, so definitely a late round pick if I'm slacking in those areas. But like I said a late round pick.

I loved him last year, but I'm weary. Philly is one of the worst teams in the league when it comes to rotations and defined roles. Outside of Noel and Okafor, it's a toss up as to who will receive regular minutes.

The fact that he got benched last year in favor of Sampson and a host of other sloths gives me reason to pause when considering him before pick 70.

No off-season love for the Lord?

Got him in my 14-team at pick #104, and I expect great value for that pick. Definite top 100.

Stauskas is dealing with a stress-fracture that RW mentioned Jrue and Beal also had.

Seeing as Covington and Stauskas were their floor-spacers, I like the idea of Covington potentially sinking 3+ 3PM again.

If I get 5 st3cks off him, i'm really happy with him as my 8th rounder and can deal with the Brandon Jennings FG

Why do you think you can get 5 st3cks off him?

I was looking at my own team this morning, with cp3, kawhi, davis, etc (keepe) and none of them had 5 st3cks on the season

You might wanna temper expectations

Average? No way.

Maybe I should have been more clear. Popcorn stats, yes. 2 steals, 2 3PM, 1 block, once a week, would be great

if your talking about steals he's had a few games with 5-6 stls, not that high on blks but he can still get you some but still a late round pickup nonethless

12-6-6-1-1 with 3 3PM

With a 45% success rate from downtown, I love the potential for him to be more than a specialist from 3
