College scouting reports are overrated for the most part. Look at David Johnson's scout report: long, leggy, no power, goes down on first contact, slow cuts...

For some players it just clicks in the pros with proper coaching. He has the god-given natural ability and good coaching with a huge opportunity looming is all he needed. I think he performs, takes the starting gig and never looks back. In that offense 10+ TD is absolutely possible.

Worth Stashing Zach also or not?

Lions placed RB Ameer Abdullah on injured reserve with a foot injury.

The nature of Abdullah's foot injury is still unknown, but he spent all of Tuesday in North Carolina visiting with renowned foot/ankle specialist, DR. Robert Anderson. With the league's new IR rules, Abdullah can be activated after eight weeks if the Lions make him their designated for return player. But he's out at least the next two months. Theo Riddick will take over as the Lions' new No. 1 running back, but he's never proven to be much of a between-the-tackles type. Impressive rookie Dwayne Washington is worth adding in all formats. He's big at 6'1/223, fast (4.44 forty), and already has a role as Detroit's goal-line back. Zach Zenner should also now be active as the No. 3 back.

Washington has passed Zenner on the depth chart, evident by Zenner's inactives and Washington's actives and even in game usage.

So sure, if you have room for the Lions third rb, then add Zenner.

Just be nice if it actually works out.  Last few years when thjs happens and everyone's excitement it's hard not to dive in but I won't be surprised if something stupid prevents it.

I get the hype, I'm excited to own him in three leagues after snagging for free off the WW early this AM.

But lets just consider a few things before getting TOO crazy.

A lot of folks ITT saying that Riddick is a bad runner.  While this may be true in years past he's looked pretty good running the ball so far this year.  He's averaging 4.6 ypc and Lions coaches, like pretty much the past two years, have said he's improved as a rusher especially with his vision.  JBC seems intent to get him rushes, not just a pass catcher so that the Lions offense is less predictable when he is in the game.

Riddick has 18 carries, Abdullah had 18 carries and Washington 6 so far on the year.  Riddick will certainly get a bump in carries, although Washington will keep the GL carries and pick up the rest.  I see about a 50/50 split for CARRIES.  So I'm thinking somewhere around 10 carries and 2-3 catches a game.  On those numbers you're really hoping for a GL touchdown especially in the first few weeks before we see what this guy has got.

Also he's an insane fumbler... let's not kid ourselves.  Abdullah was bad but this guys numbers are so much worse.  He's also a converted WR.  So between fumbles and learning RB at the pro level he's very raw.  Abdullah was able to cut down the fumbles to, I believe, zero in the second half of the season last year, so hopefully the Lions coaching staff can do the same for Washington.

I see a lot of talent and he's looked really good so far from what I've seen but it's pretty early to not be worried about a few finer points of his game.

Love the hype and upside... but let's not get too crazy yet.

PS CHOO-CHOO!

  • From Lions beat writer Birkett. Interesting how the articles now have a solid fantasy bent to them...Nice to see..

Rookie Dwayne Washington has served as the Lions' No. 2 running back the first two weeks. He got two goal-line carries on his only two offensive snaps in a Week 1 win over the Indianapolis Colts and flashed even more potential on four carries (for 31 yards) against the Titans.

Washington isn't a fantasy starter outside of the deepest leagues this week, but he's an intriguing speculative play, nonetheless.

Like Riddick, Washington is a former receiver who has shown slick moves in the open field. He has good speed, as evidenced by his 96-yard kick return touchdown in the preseason, and if he continues to earn his coaches' trust, he could see his workload expand going forward.

For this week, it's probably best to keep Washington on the bench. The Lions don't project to play with a lead much at Green Bay, and Washington's inexperience as a pass protector might cost him reps.

He's still the Lions' best bet for goal-line carries -- Riddick won't get many of those -- though Zach Zenner's presence as the third running back could complicate matters.

Zenner was inactive the last two weeks, but he ran hard and showed good vision in limited work last year, and the Lions do like to spread the wealth in their backfield. He's probably not worth owning in most leagues, but if the Lions get 21 carries on Sunday (their average through two weeks), Zenner might get three or four of them.

As for Abdullah, it's too early to say whether he's worth holding on to in non-dynasty leagues. He played through a torn labrum in his shoulder late last year, so his toughness shouldn't be in question. But foot problems aren't good for running backs. His second opinion waits.

Joique Bell signing or not is irrelevant, he was an overacheiver now he's just JUNK.

One of my favorite things about Rotoworld is when people lie to themselves to prop up their player or potential player.

Joique signing is far from irrelevant when you're talking about a converted RB with very limited experience and a supposed fumbling issue. I'm all in for Dwayne as well, and the last thing I want is for Joique to re-sign with this team.

Joique scares me too.
If he signs , hell probably steal all GL carries. With riddick on passing downs and working a lot too, this situation could be a mess for fantasy purpose

Abdullah is so talented and he was hard to trust.

Good luck with that RBBC loving coaching staff.

Wait, so let me try to understand your logic here...

The Lions are going to sign Joique off the street, and give him ALL the goal line carries??

despite Dwayne ALREADY getting the goal line carries BEFORE the Ameer injury took place??

Interesting...

It's not always about who had what job before a major injury.

You have to trust the guy getting the ball-  and Joique has that.
