I don't care how anyone spins this. He has a fractured knuckle on his throwing hand. Bone takes 4 weeks to heal best case. No speeding that up and I can't imagine he can throw the same way without causing pain given the force generate behind a pitch. So I am avoiding. I also avoid all pitchers who come into the season with an injury unless truly minor.
colepenhagen 3,128 Posted March 11, 2017 buy low if you already drafted 4th rder + scraps might get it done

In a H2H league it's easier for me to stash a guy for the playoff run as it won't hurt you as much as it would in Roto formats. If he lasts until the 4th or 5th round I think I'd have to take the chance.
midlip 467 Posted March 13, 2017 Discount might be gone already: Quote Max Scherzer (finger) pledged Monday that he will be ready for the start of the 2017 season. That might not mean Opening Day, but the ace right-hander does not expect to miss a turn in the Nationals' season-opening starting rotation. "I'm gonna do it," he told reporters Monday morning. Scherzer is working to get over a stress fracture in his right ring finger and has been experimenting with a three-finger fastball grip. He is tentatively scheduled to pitch in a minor league game this Friday in Nats camp.

Here's the beginning of the story: Max Scherzer has come to grips with a finger injury — by coming up with a new, unusual grip for his fastball. The Washington Nationals ace won the NL Cy Young Award last season despite a stress fracture on his right ring finger in the second half. The problem didn't totally heal during the winter, so Scherzer is trying something different this spring. "It is strange that I am throwing with three fingers," Scherzer said. Sure is. New Three Fingered Grip for Scherzer
Chaco Chicken 246 Posted March 13, 2017 Why hasn't his stress fracture healed? Does he have osteomyelitis? Max Scherzer pitches poorly; He was hurt. Max Scherzer pitches well; He wasn't really hurt. Max Scherzer invents three fingered fastball; Max is a genius

BostonCajun 1,501 Posted March 16, 2017 He's pitching today in a minor league game today and will implement his 3 finger grip fastball. He acknowledged that he won't pitch opening day but still claims he will not miss a start. Let's see how this "new" grip goes today. If he does well in the 3 innings he's scheduled for I'll be encouraged.
