lipitorkid 772
The biggest need for a closer just went off the market (and cheaply too) these teams could still use some help, correct me if I'm wrong: STL MIN (not a closer, but bullpen help) ARI (I would want a proven closer waiting in the wings) and that's kinda it. Lots of sellers, but now that WAS is off the market not too many buyers, unless LAD really want to add a piece to one of the best bullpens in MLB. We might have way less movt than people think, you might want to trade for a closer now rather than wait for one to pop up via trade.

Baur10 2,085
From a fantasy POV I'd prefer Doolittle because of they Ks, but I gotta echo what other have been saying I think it'll be Madson. 1 minute ago, GrapeJuice said: Who's the get in Oak? Still Casilla I'd imagine although long term I think they'll see if Trienen has what it takes at some point over the next year or so.

The Nats probably didn't want to pay the assets for Robertson.
kidtwentytwo 5,341
Treinen is better against aggressive batters when men are on base. That's why he will never work as a closer. He even admitted it
thefamily79 195
Maybe the Nats aren't done acquiring RPs? I could see them adding another quality arm.

Fuzzy_Slippers 3,896
Kahnle will be the closer once Robertson is traded.
B&F 879
It seems to be a buyer's market for relievers. A lot of relievers are available with really only a few teams buying.

For those of you with FAAB or move limitations where Doolittle and Madson are available I'd be wary of spending a big on them. Obviously very league dependent. Still I don't think the Nats are done. You're probably right, but then again I think the Nats want to keep the money in the bank and still fix the problem. I personally think getting Doolittle and Madson does that. This is probably the best answer, But I'd lean Madson since: (1) he is righty (and Doolittle is a lefty); (2) he's more "proven" as a closer (Seem like something Dusty would love); and (3) he's been more durable
Fiveohnine 1,496
I guess the A's decided to put their lockdown on last place the last couple years in jeopardy by finally cashing their three closers. It seems to me like the best guess is Madson since their situational lefty is Romero.
dod959 1,018
So now who is the sneaky pickup in Oakland if/when Castillo is dealt or sucks? Treinen hit 100 mph last time out and his FIP is actually good in the past little while.

Who is in the running for a playoff spot that needs to spend prospects or talent to acquire a closer? If a team is just looking to bolster their bullpen they could do it for far cheaper than trading for Robertson.

He had his best year last year- a year with a career low BABIP and career high LOB%. Sample sizes are so small in the bullpen that I'm always cautious about a one year improvement unless they developed a new pitch or are a SP moving to the pen for the first time. Blake is neither. The only reason Oakland would toss him in as closer is if Casilla gets hurt/traded AND they think another team is stupid enough to give up talent for someone that a desperate Nationals team didn't even have faith in. B&F 879
Treinen is the Michael Pineda of relievers.

I personally think getting Doolittle and Madson does that. I think it does too actually. I just think the way the year has gone there's huge pressure for them to fix the BP with a statement. They're one of the best teams in the league but have lost an absurd number of games due to their pen. Personally I think Madson/Doolittle will be the best value relative to cost available this year. Still they gotta sell it to ownership and their fans after the first half embarrassment. Plus getting a higher end guy to pair with Madson in the 8th with Doolittle as the lefty specialist, they'd arguably have the best overall pitching staff in the league. (Key word Arguably)
thefamily79 195
I think everyone locked into the playoffs will be very interested in additional quality RPs. You can never have enough for a playoff series.
