Nats don't need to acquire another arm. They can slot in Madson in the 9th and everything will be groovy.

I may or may not own Madson.

96mnc, I see your name at the bottom of the screen, my hat is off to you, you called the Madson & Doolittle to the Nats.  Not surprising for me,  always liked many of your post (even before you were a mod   :D).

I think it does too actually.  I just think the way the year has gone there's huge pressure for them to fix the BP with a statement. They're one of the best teams in the league but have lost an absurd number of games due to their pen. Personally I think Madson/Doolittle will be the best value relative to cost available this year. Still they gotta sell it to ownership and their fans after the first half embarrassment.

Plus getting a higher end guy to pair with Madson in the 8th with Doolittle as the lefty specialist, they'd arguably have the best overall pitching staff in the league. (Key word Arguably)

I've always thought this was the move...getting both of Doolittle AND Madson.

They have Enny Romero who can be their loogy if they want to use Doolittle as the closer.  I think either of Madson or Doolittle can do the job but Doolittle would be my choice.

Luzardo is a nice prospect but the cost was perfect - no Soto, Robles, or Fedde.

They can still get another arm if they'd like be it starter or reliever as they could move Ross to the bullpen for the rest of this year.

Edit: just realized Ross is out for the year.

Where was this version of Rosenthal when he had that shot at closing? Guy is unhittable in last few appearances. Pitching back-to-back-to-back and mowing down Pirates.

With all of these Baltimore rp rumored to be moved.... givens worth a stash in deep leagues?

I'd imagine you could find a better stash than one requiring 3 guys all to be traded.

Cecil in to close for Cards to face Cervelli, polanco, Mercer. Rosenthal faced top of the order in eighth.

Maybe it's Rosenthal's turn again for the next chance.

Maybe it's the Cardinals who should be calling the White Sox or Marlins.

Rosenthal will be the closer very soon, if not immediately. He has looked great lately and the advanced metrics show he has outpitched his actual era/whip all year. Scoop him up immediately if you need saves.

Man even on shakier days Jansen is just dominant.  Glad the run wasn't his responsibility.

I was just about to say, it seems the thread's consensus that it's not Claudio may be wrong.

I think it may be him until he blows one at this point.

in all my leagues Madson was already owned, but I grabbed Doolittle in 2. that means it has to be Doolittle!

Madson. 1 SV, 3 BS.

Doolittle, 3 SV, 1 BS.

Doolittle when healthy has been better?

Those BS are not save chances -- they are hold situations where he gave up the lead.

Claudio came in for the 8th. Not sure the reason for that

This bullpen is still pretty clearly a matchups play.  The two saves he's gotten over the past couple of days have both been against lefty-heavy parts of the opposing order.  I think those that are anointing Claudio as "the guy" aren't paying full attention to the specific scenarios.

Ugly Norris save. Gave up 3 hits, and a walk, one run. Bases loaded double play to get out of it. He's been pretty awesome this year. Keep waiting for him to implode, but hasn't happened

I imagine it's been covered, but Boston is scouting David Robertson of the White Sox (along with Frazier). I have to think Kimbrel keeps closing, but that would be a loss for saves from Robertson owners.

I don't think the Sox scouting Robertson has been covered actually. So, thanks for the info
