Jacquizz Rodgers 2017 Outlook

Recommended Posts

Martin is getting the touches as a "starter" in preseason games. The Bucs are tipping their hand here. He will be the lead back when he comes off the suspension. Rodgers is just the 3 week rental and then you need to worry about Sims and McNichols stealing his touches in those weeks.

Each passing week of the preseason looks less and less likely you'll be wanting to start Jacquizz at any point during those 3 weeks. My guess is that he's only getting 10-15 touches per game the first 3 weeks with the other backs eating into the workload.

I think this is most likely, but Jacquizz is gonna get at least part of the first crack at RB while Martin is suspended, opening the door for the possibility Martin gets Wally Pipp'd. It'd be a fairly random thing to happen, but so was Blount scoring 18 TDs in the dreaded Pats backfield, and Ajayi going from left at home to dominant. There's a few things every year that defy logic, and Jacquizz at least will have a chance to impress. Besides, it's not like Martin's some world-beater, he's had two good years out of five. I think it's more likely Martin takes the job and runs with it, but wouldn't be shocked if Jacquizz has a far better year than we all think.

Week 1 looks good. Not so sure I'd feel good about starting him against Chicago or Minnesota though.

McNichols is the best RB on that team; may be time to sell high on Rodgers to the Martin owner if the hype continues to build.

Coach Dirk Koetter indicated fifth-round RB Jeremy McNichols is a long shot for the Bucs' final 53.

"He's gonna get one final chance to show what he can do," said Koetter, before he added McNichols "is making too many mistakes on offense." Koetter said as far back as the Bucs' post-draft press conference that McNichols wouldn't be assured a spot on the team. McNichols proceeded to miss the entire spring following shoulder surgery. He has been buried throughout camp, and got benched after missing a blitz pickup in the Bucs' third preseason game.

for late round flier it's worth a shot, you never know if doug hurts his hamstring like last year or whatever the case may be and quizz runs away with the starting job. low risk, high reward

Good article ^^.  Lots of chatter out there about him seizing the position, free pickup right now for many.

But just a month ago Bucs brass was saying that during the first 3 weeks of Martin absence, they will use RBBC

Yeah but the rookie RB McNichols pooped him self, Sims is still the 3rd round back, whoever else they have probably won't sniff the field much.

Quizz getting totally dissed in yahoo stat projections, 4.49 points for week 1 lol.

In the 5 games that he started last year he touched the ball at least 17 times a game, that is what I am banking on for the first 3 weeks.  4 of those 5 games he scored in double digits, that's all I am asking for until Martin comes back.  Seems like McNichols might not even make the roster, so that leaves Rodgers and Sims as the main guys.

Fair enough, but is there any fear that if Quizz does well then it might become a timeshare once Martin comes back?  I hold both with a hope that Quizz does well in Martin's absence. And once Martin is back, he will be the main back..  This way I have the Bucs backfield locked up.

What they say doesn't always translate.  Last year he was the main guy when he started.  Sims will likely operate as 3rd down back but I think you'll see plenty of Quizz in the first 3 weeks.  Too bad that the matchups are not more favorable.

I keep seeing people say that but the matchups are very favorable.

Week 1: Miami (30th rush def)

Week 2: Chicago (27th rush def)

Week 3: Minnesota (20th rush def)

Aside from a dream opening schedule of Cleveland, San Fran and Miami, I'd say this schedule is about as good as you could expect for Rodgers.

From all reports, Martin has looked outstanding in camp.  So it is a little puzzling that the coaches said that he's not guaranteed his job back.  Maybe it's motivation for both him and Quizz.  Quizz ate last year when he had the opportunity.  Hoping for a hot start and perhaps test the trade market and sell high when I can before Martin gets mixed back in.

Anyone else in the situation where they are thinking about starting Quizz over Mixon for the first couple of weeks?

I am not starting him over Mixon, but I am flexing him.  A more proven RB in a more clear situation.  I'd start him.

This is getting into obvious AC territory, as I don't think it's a common finding that a team would happen to own both Quizz and Mixon.

But to answer the question generally, you're having trouble deciding between a RB who proved he could carry the mail last year when given the chance versus an unproven rookie who still has to contend with an RB that inexplicably still has the trust of his organization (Hill) and a pass catching specialist (Gio)?

Wouldnt say I'm having trouble. Rather just asking a general question to see if others are in the same boat.

A general question would be:

Where would you rank Rodgers among RBs for the weeks he starts?

or a disguised version:

Where would you rank Rodgers among RBs for the weeks he starts? Is he more of the RB2 class (like top 20) or the Flex RB class? Would you guys start him over some of the rookies (Mixon, Cook) or other RBs of that tier like Hyde? But just asking who smoeone would take between two players belongs in the AC.

---

I play in two leagues and I found that the only player I got in both leagues was Jacquizz. I don't see how he can't be worth the ADP right now. At worst, Quizz offers you a cheap flex for the first three weeks while you can utilize your bench to try and find out who you want to put in that Flex spot by the time he loses the job. And that's if he loses the job. I expect him to, but Martin has certinaly had his share of short comings in multiple facets (Injuries, Suspensions, ill-performance). Love Quizz.

So speculating with others about situations that have to deal with Quizz in a Quizz thread is a no go but in majority of the threads here people go back and forth arguing... Yet that's okay?

Got it I'll keep that in mind for the future brother.

When the situation is razor specific to your roster... yeah... pretty  much that's how it works.

I drafted Mixon and took Quizz for this exact reason.

Will probably start him over Gillislee and Mixon week 1.

Buccaneers waived RB Jeremy McNichols.

I don't see how Rodgers doesn't get at least 15-20 touches weeks 1-3.

I'm not sure why this guy isn't getting more attention.  Everybody and their mother are telling people that if they draft Zeke, then they must go get McFadden, despite Alf looking pretty spry this preseason.  Yet nobody says if you get Doug Martin (who I think can return low end RB1 value once he's back), you need to get Quizz.  This despite Quizz showing he was competent in a replacement role last year.  Are people afraid of Charles Sims taking up significant PT?  What gives?
