Christian Yelich 2018 Outlook

Recommended Posts

Yelich (oblique) was reinstated from the disabled list Tuesday, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Spin:

Yelich has been inching back to a return from the DL, and he finally proved his health enough to get back onto the active roster. However, he's not in the lineup Tuesday, allowing him another day off to rest his injured oblique. To make room for him on the active roster, reliever Jorge Lopez was sent back to the minors.

Christian Yelich is starting in center field and batting second Wednesday versus the Reds.

Advice: Yelich was activated off the disabled list Tuesday but did not play in the Brewers' 2-0 defeat of the Reds. This will be his first game since April 4, when he suffered a right oblique strain.

His name has a red X next to it in Yahoo as if hes not starting. WTF

Yahoo is showing Cain in and Yelich out.

Everywhere else I've looked has Yelich in and Cain out.

I'm assuming Yahoo is wrong but can't say for certain.

Brewers twitter says Yelich is starting. But that was a couple hours ago. Could be he had a flare up and they scratched him. But I wouldn't expect yahoo to be the ones out ahead of the news.

Yelich hasn't done much against pretty crappy pitching since his return.

Maybe the oblique still hurts.

Scuffling a bit lately, with only 3 hits in his last 23AB...

But I think something is happening here worth monitoring:

Exit Velocity: 96.43MPH (89.12 league) vs 90.4MPH last year

Avg Launch Angle 1.73 (12.42 league)

GB%: 55%, same as last year

Soft, Medium Hard contact: 13.3, 33.3, 53.3 - his best percentages ever.

I think he's made a serious adjustment in order to hit the ball harder and further than before, but his launch angle is really crummy. This new approach is going to take some time, I'd guess, especially when missing some time with that injury.

I still expect 18HR/~20SB from this guy, and that BA is going to rise a bit. Stay patient.

Any thoughts here?  Doesn't seem to be quite what I was expecting.  I didn't expect home runs, but hes striking out a bit much and not knocking the ball around as much as I would of thought.  He had the Oblique, any worries or just a 'he will turn it around' at some point player?

*** not that I'm even disappointed in what I've gotten out of him really

That HR he hit today...good lord. I halfway expected them to show us that the cover came off. He destroyed that pitch.

Yelich just pulled after running out groundout in the first. No word on injury but it looked like R hammy strain watching the video

Potentially good news?  Got to think this is better then a hammy or oblique at least.

Any word here?

Rumor is minor leaguer Nate Orf is on his way to Milwaukee. So that seems like a DL stint is in Yelich’s future.

The kid is en fuego! How come no ones talking about it? Big contender for player of the month.
