Mar/April Closer Thread 2018

He didn't blow the save tonight as there was no save, but even so, I don't think he gets the next save chance the Cardinals get.  It would make more sense to give it to Norris and let Holland work through the issues he had tonight.  People can have an off night, but given that this was his debut, it wouldn't make much sense to throw a guy out there for a save chance that did what he did tonight yet.

Albers first innings was pretty terrible, but the second was fine. Not going to be easy this time of

year with only one run to protect, especially first time in the role.  Settled down nicely

what kind of leash are we expecting for holland? two more blown saves ?

Based on what we saw today, he needs more time in the minors. he can easily blow the next few opportunities no problem.

I mean he has been in the league for a long time, no real excuse for this extraordinary poor control and complete lack of location. Look at his pitch map , guy basically missed all his pitches pretty much lol.

His excuse for the location, which was his undoing, is that he didn't go through a normal routine prior to the season that he's done for a long time. I'd say two straight blown save might get him a little time non-closing to clear his head, but as jfs previously mentioned, he's got a fat paycheck that says he'll have a lot of leeway.

is Giles ok ?

This is really getting comical with Giles, what will be today’s excuse for him not getting the save opportunity? The Astros clearly think he’s trash and have zero confidence in him. Just like their playoff run last year.

As an owner of none of them, I still think Giles ends up leading the team in saves. But I think it’ll be something like 22-25, and you’ll have a few other guys get 5-10.

Bumping this from yesterday

kinda agree.  Giles, devinski, peacock, maybe even mchugh

Devo is better facing against lefties so he faced 3 of them. Giles came in for Buxton and almost got a blown save. Buxton missed that shot by 3 feet.

Giles: 1 batter, 5 pitches, 1 SV. Sounds good.

Almost blew it with a near-homer to Buxton...
