Bochy never mentioned him.

Just let Melancon close and get it over with.

I still wonder what's going on here that they're not telling us.  He's not pitching back-to-backs, and Bochy seemingly isn't considering the guy with the bloated contract who's a former all-star closer.  Something doesn't add up.

He just got a save this week.  He's begun pitching on "two days rest".  He's pitched the 24th, 26th, and 28th.  I think they're being careful with him, but it's only a matter of time once he shows he can handle the workload.  I wouldn't be surprised if we see a co-closer Melancon/Watson situation for the time being.  Just rip the band aid off.  He doesn't need to go 3 days in a row, but back to back shouldn't kill him.

Guys like Dyson are better when they're put into situations where the batters need to be aggressive.  He's not a closer.

Thanks, double checked and found the problem. On the app still just shows RP but can be moved to SP, in the browser it shows RP/SP so was just app being slow in adding the SP beside his name(still hasn't but he can be placed there).

Any chance we see them turn to Will Smith?  He's been the only truly consistent / dominant reliever throughout the season

My take on the Giants closer situation:

- It's a committee for now.

- It will cease to be a committee when Melancon can pitch back to back games.

As far as the current committee goes, I'd rank them:

1. Melancon: will close the second half of the season and is the inevitable choice to close.  It's just a matter of time/healing.

2. Smith: nasty stuff, SP eligible in Yahoo, should be a good source of HLDs as well.  He should be owned.

3. Watson: lefty specialist, excellent HLDs, likely will be the "lefty closer" option in the committee.  Should be owned especially in HLDs leagues.

4. Moronta: throwing fire right now, unproven, has closing experience in minors, walks a lot of guys.

5. Dyson: really not a closer and never was. Will be a decent source of HLDs post all-star break.

Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins said Friday that Roberto Osuna will be the team's closer when he's eligible to return from suspension on August 5.

It's possible he'll be eased back into the job with a couple low-leverage appearances, but this removes any doubt that he might not get his job back (not that there ever really was any doubt). Osuna's next court date for his assault case is July 9, at which point he's expected to plead not guilty. Ryan Tepera is currently serving as the Jays' closer.

I suspect it's true.

I also suspect that the timing of this announcement is to rebuild value before the trade deadline, and remove the thought from other teams' minds that they might not actually play him. If they can get an acceptable return (not a Chapman level sell-low) I'm sure they'd prefer to move him.

thinking of scooping him up in my high dollar money league...real tight race for saves and nobody is willing to deal a closer at the time

just lost strickland and herrera and looks like i will lose tepara when osuna returns..

Nice to see Morrow back and getting saves again all while being able to put on his pants properly.

Does Canada have a work release program? If convicted there will be some type of punishment whether jail time or probation. Probation could screw up his visa maybe

To my knowledge it would be up to United States if he's allowed to enter. WWE wrestler Jeff Hardy isn't or at least wasn't recently allowed to enter Canada due to past charges.

No Tepera tonight for Toronto.  Oh still pitched the 8th with Clippard locking down the save.

Something or nothing?
