If it were changed to an error it'd still be 3 ER. He's still responsible for the other batters before and after the "error" because it would have only been the 2nd out.

No, it would have been 0 ER had that been scored as an error.  The way MLB scoring works, any runs that occurred after the "would be" third out are unearned.

No. Smith will be the closer ROS.

You can't be more wrong. The pitcher doesn't simply get a free pass to not have any runs charged to him because of an error in the inning. You have to "re-construct" the inning. The play in question was the "first out". Had it been counted as an error, he was responsible for the the 2 HBP + HR, therefore, he would still have earned runs.

Madson reported shooting pains down his back and legs - is it Koda or Miller?

Someone is wrong here, but it’s not him.

Zobrist grounded out, which was the first out.

The play in question, Heywards “single”, if ruled an error would have been the second out.

Then schwarber fouled out. That would have been the third out. Meaning the hbp and home run afterwards would not have occurred.

Thanks for the assist.  Sending this one out to our friend upthread.

Doolittle is the only one who's been able to break The Curse of the Nationals Closer in the last couple of seasons. I'd be scared of whoever's next in line.

So, can we drop Knebel now? What are the chances that he turns things around? He looks totally lost and it's probably a lost season for him.

How excited are we for Lugo NYM closing ?

I wasn't sure who their guy was, but his Yahoo note seems to say he'll be the closer. He's got RP/SP which makes him extra valuable. He doesn't have a very high owned% for someone closing and having SP elig.

So who gets more save chances...Hand splitting potential opportunities with Allen, or Lugo on a team that may not have many opportunities?

Id go Lugo.. its been studied and bad teams make up for lack of wins by having more close games then good teams.

Glover or Justin Miller as the Madson alternate?

neither ... chasing saves can be a death to a fantasy team, it hurts more times then helps

when Herrera went down it was a sign to stay away from the Nats situation

Actually, he's not wrong. You and street sharks are. The runs scored after the "third out" would have been made. Therefore every run scored after that is considered unearned.

Isn't it a committee? We all thought Swarzak was closing when he got 2 in a row, but then Gsellman got the next one despite Swarzak being available

He was regressing big time even before the self-inflicted injury.  Highly doubt he comes back and is rewarded with the closer role after he screwed his team over.

Yahoo note says Swarzak on DL, which I had no idea heh, haven't followed anything Mets for a while. Gsellman has been horrible. Lugo has pitched pretty good as RP, not so much as a SP. But seems like he could be a nice pick up for SV with everyone searching for them. His SP/RP is great, just surprised wasn't more chatter.

I  am somewhat new to rotisserie baseball compared to others in this forum.

Is it possible to punt saves or stolen bases and still win a league?

I would say the likelihood of winning is very very low. I wouldn't recommend. Lack of SB is a big part of why I'm not doing better in the standings cause the rest of my categories are pretty solid

You could punt them during your draft sure, but pick up guys throughout the season... easier to do with closers than with base stealers though.

But these are two categories you can quickly make up ground in if you decide to pick up one of the specialists and load your lineup with closers or base stealers for a short stretch.
