Also praise be to the deity of your choice that we already have the video and don't need to spend months saying "if only there was video" while everyone makes their own story up, good or bad, about how it all went down

Nah, now we can enjoy everyone watching the same video but making wildly different statements about what the video shows.

Gotta love the offseason.

As a side note, metro is notorious for letting celebs off. The goal in Vegas is to protect Vegas' image and keep celebrities here to fuel the tourism. They just recently let Charles Oakley slide for blatant cheating at a casino and he has no profile anymore. Even if Zeke was high/at fault/whatever it will die completely.

regardless of the slackness of vegas metro, the goodell bot never slackens when visual evidence casts a disparaging image over the nfl.

2-game suspension, appealed, softened to a 1-game suspension.

interestingly, if it had been a female security guard who zeked backed into the metal gate with his imposing move, he'd be staring at an 8-game suspension and no hope for appeal.

You might be right about 8 games if it was a woman. Ironically you'll never hear the feminists whine about that being some kind of double standard.

"the dialogue escalated just a bit, but Elliott walked away and grabbed a bite to eat before reconvening with the woman shortly thereafter — where they continued their

discussion. When a member of event security suddenly challenged Elliott, the two went chest-to-chest, and the security guard then fell backward through a metal guard

rail. / Elliott, however, did not apply the type of force necessary to create the fall."

what the writer's analysis fails to consider is, zeke's "bite to eat" included a hot dog smothered with onions and chili, and whereas zeke "did not apply the type of [physical] force" needed to push the security guard into the gate, his breath surely did.

also unmentioned, the electric daisy festival that zeke attended is annoying.

"It should also work in Elliott's favor that it's just as Jones says, in that the 23-year-old has shown immense maturity since the aforementioned suspension in 2017, having

a pristine offseason in 2018 and recently giving back to the community in a big way"

if there's anything that raises roger godell's suspicions, it's a "pristine offseason".

Yeah but no further action from the police keeps us safe from commissioner exempt list.

that is a direct quote from @Jags02's article https://247sports.com/nfl/dallas-cowboys/Article/Cowboys-contracts-The-2-keys-to-Ezekiel-Elliott-becoming-the-NFLs-top-paid-RB-132238015/ not a quote from yours truly. the writer of the article is clearly biased, an obvious dallas fan and/or zeke holder in dynasty.

what i saw is zeke break the rules of proximity, backing the security guard into the gate where he stumbled and fell. zeke's margarita + hot dog breath is clearly a culprit as well as his overbearing manner in close proximity.

if he would simply stay at home or return home when his inebriation reaches "drunken," we'd be looking at three full 16-game seasons

Yes yes that was clear (I put extra quotation marks just to make sure) but it doesn't hurt to clear that up for posterity.

From ESPN today...

"Elliott was seen on video having an argument with his girlfriend when he turned his attention to the security guard.

Elliott is subject to a fine or suspension under the league's personal conduct policy, which does not require an arrest or conviction for a player to be penalized."

I guess NFL players are held to a higher moral standard than the rest of America.  Any of us can argue with our girlfriend or spouse, and maybe even have a little drunken misunderstanding with somebody at a bar or concert, yet we still show up to work on Monday with nobody being the wiser.

The takeaway here is that if you want an opponent's star player to be suspended, start having your fans follow these guys at all times with cellphone in hand and recording any possible egregious violations of this personal conduct policy...

Lol. Where you been the last 10 years?

This is every single celebrity in the world since cell phones began recording video.

The only difference between 2009 and today is back then you could dispute the person in the video was you (the celeb), now the video quality has eliminated that.

Give it time.   We'll soon be at the point where the celeb can claim it's a deep fake pic.

Yeah I know lots of other companies and institutions where you can get busted for drug use (or dealing) or beating up your kid or wife or (etc etc)...or even simply jump down your supervisor's throat and tell him to f off...and just get a slap on the wrist (if that) and stay with the company.

Yep those ball players sure have it rough. I mean it's not like they make millions to play a game.

P.S.S. - Zeke could be the odd man out in Dallas if the pay Dak and Amari so pollard would be a sneaky pick (if he made it to round 19) since he could take over for Zeke if Dallas decided not to resign him.

[copied this over from the dwill thread because it's a point worth discussing (and we'd hit an impasse there once our stances were on the table)]

raises some questions regarding the dallas backfield, especially regarding upcoming dynasty and keeper drafts:

why pollard and not mike weber?

why not both pollard and mike weber?

but most of all, to what lengths will dallas go to keep zeke?

for my two cents, i do not believe jerry jones and jason garrett will let zeke go, chiefly because of zeke's solidity, but complementary because the people of dallas love zeke: cowboys' fans see zeke as the second coming / next wave of RB dominance vis-a-vis emmitt smith / tony dorsett. i've been to dallas: zeke's hands may wander all over boobage, he might bump into security staff while drunk, he might _____________, and diehard fans will not think any less of him.

the cowboys also win when zeke plays and lose when he's not on the field.

i suggest that no matter how complicated the situation, no matter how tight the money, no matter how stupid zeke's next antics are, jerry jones will find a way to ensure zeke's retention as the cowboys' centerpiece (essentially relegating pollard and weber to fill-ins).

still, there is speculation regarding zeke and his contract. if anyone has a different take, weigh in.

The simplest way i can think of it, if Garrett gets extended, Zeke will get extended. Garrett and Co. have built this machine up front and around Zeke, clearly.    BUT, I'm not totally convinced JG is still the HC after this season.  There are BIG expectations in place for 2019', IMO.  They are letting Garrett earn this next contract, thankfully.   I think the way the RB position is being devalued overall, i could see a new HC coming in with a new approach which could lead to Zeke being on the outside looking in. Kind of how we heard about Gase pleading to the NYJ to not pay Leveon the money he got.

Also, FWIW, i don't follow DHC's idea of Pollard being a guy that could take over if by some chance Zeke were not extended. I don't see Pollard as a feature RB at the NFL level.  He could be a very nice change of pace / compliment RB though, IMO

I have a hard time believing Jerry Jones won't do everything possible to keep arguably the best running back in the league and his overall #4 draft pick on his roster until he is no longer elite.

Edited to "in the league" rather than "in the draft".

I would guess based on that apology that there will be no suspension.  Does the NFL even give us any sort of deadline by which they'll have decided? It's so damn arbitrary.  We got drafts in 3-4 weeks man.

He good. It seems extremely farfetched to suspend him for bumping a security guard.

Yo TimeX, good to see ya.  I think i would tend to agree with you if it were just down to Jerry, BUT i also think this is going to come down to Stephen Jones as well.  He's going to play a very significant part in all deals ahead. Which will be key.  People forget, he was a big voice in the room for letting Murray walk after a heavy workload and a great season. Dallas took a ton of heat for that move as well.  Stephen is far more money conscious and i believe he understands the value of the positions in this era of the game, IMO, more then Jerry does and i think thats partly bc Stephen has had a front row seat at Jerry's over paid failures over the years.

Even though i agree this Zeke/Vegas thing is well overblown, the fact remains he's carrying a suspended history with the league currently and we all know no one can predict what Roger Johnny Law wants to do.  I think this Vegas ordeal actually works in Dallas' favor in regards to his extension being kicked a bit further down the road.  The Cowboys technically don't have to pay him another dime until 2021.  They should be in no rush to extend him, IMO, and given the heavy work load he's going to see from now until then, a LOT can change in a few short years, esp at running back.  I think its going to take a Jason Garrett extension and a squeaky clean slate from here until 2020 or so for Zeke to get his extension.  Im not convinced we see either happen
