Melvin Gordon 2019 Outlook

ok, but ... they already had 4th and goal from the one, and opted for the FG, which was goooooood- to put them up 22-3.

i betcha Phil/MGIII did some lobbying during the penalty time, and Lynn had a change of heart .. VOILA!  we get the 6 pernts!

I watched the game, Rivers was lobbying hard on the sideline.  And Romo even said Lynn made the move to likely put an identity on the team that they can get 1 yard if they want it.  They won the line of scrimmage on both sides all day, the call was a chest thump to create an identity.

Gordon should be a virtual lock for 15 PPR points per game rest of season, with significant upside.  Hopefully this is the beginning of the "too little, too late" annual run the Chargers make while loading stat sheets with fantasy goodness.

Ekeler got stopped on two carries inside the 5. And Ekeler’s ypc has been bad; he’s not exactly the beacon of efficiency.

...and Gordon got stuffed twice from the ONE yard line and coughed it up just a few weeks ago. What was Gordon's YPC before yesterdays game again? like 2.4? lol, yea...

I own both Gordon and Ekeler and Ekeler has clearly been the better back this year. Was Gordon's performance yesterday an indicator he's shaken off the rust from all the time missed and he's back? or was it just a good game against a not so great run defense? We will find out Thursday night.

What was Ekeler's since all the o-line injuries, worse than Gordon's right? There's a reason they don't use him between the tackles even though there are lighter fronts when he's in the backfield.

I posted it in the Ekeler thread, it was 1.7 before yesterday lol.

Both ypcs have more to do with how destroyed the chargers online is vs how effective one is vs the other.

These Ekeler homers refuse to acknowledge that his rushing numbers are worse than Gordon's in almost every measurable metric since he returned.

What's worse is that it's on lower attempts with defenses less inclined to stack the box. Nobody respects Ekeler between the tackles and he still couldn't outproduce Gordon running behind that line.

But you gotta do whatever it takes to hype up your free 8th round RB that carried your team for a couple weeks early on lol

YPC is a dumb statistic. As someone mentioned, the kinds of things Ekeler is asked to do vs Gordon should result in a higher ypc for Ekeler. Ekeler is a really good player but he has his limitations. He is not a workhorse.

Was there a big difference in play calling once their former OC got the axe? Or was Gordon’s stat line more of a coincidence and good fortune (I.e. being gifted great field position, penalty leading to a 4th down TD attempt, ekeler missing the first attempt at GL touches, etc.)

meh, it's cool having Ek around ... when MGIII needs a breather it's awesome to have a baller like that kid there to elongate drives and get our man closer to paydirt, as opposed to some ham n' egger who stalls drives out before #25 can get back in.

But Ekeler got the first crack at the GL touches this week, didn’t he? Was he just bruising the D line so Gordon could punch it in? 😂

He was in for most of that drive so they kept him in at the goalline. But naturally they went to the actual goalline back after Ekeler failed twice and the Packers went offsides on 4th down.

Ekeler is a good RB but him failing to get in will be in the coaches mind.  MG generally does well finding the end zone and good to see him get in twice last game.  This will definitely help going forward and he (MG) will continue to get his opportunities at the GL.

Trick or treat? Sell high!

Not a chance. Two things have happened here. 1) Gordon finally looks back in playing shape after missing camp, preseason and the first 4 games. 2) Steichen is a Norv Turner disciple and is more run oriented than Whisenhunt. Both of those are very good things for Gordon owners.

This is eckler’s backfield. They need to stop letting Melvin vulture goal line work. I’m sure all the players in the locker room are questioning the low usuage of their center point, Austin eckler. JUST GO AWAY MELVIN, NO ONE LIKES YOU

Actually they need to stop giving Ekeler goalline rushes in general. He pooped in his diaper on multiple attempts this past week .
