Julian Edelman 2019 Outlook

Recommended Posts

Pretty wild to think this is going to help Edelman, but all these hot takes that he's a WR4 are ridiculous. Gronk isn't on the Pats anymore, and make no mistake about it, if Brown is even on the team in October, Edelman is still the #2 target at receiver, and by a lot. Gordon is a freakishly large deep threat, and a valuable fantasy and real life player, but that's still about all he is. Edelman will still get plenty of targets as long as he's one of the Top 2 guys.

Haha, you have a point.  I mostly post while at the office, so that's where my mind-set is at I guess.  In this instance though the last post was from 2/12, so this was more about me liking Edelman an

Agree.

Even if Brady really did find the fountain of youth and AB turns into record-breaking Moss of 2007. People forgetting that Wes was beast and actually lead the whole league with receptions. Just saying don’t write Edelman off just yet.

He may lead them in catches, but his TD opportunity probably got cut in half. He was a legitimate option in the red zone before AB, now, not so much.

Def a big hit if you are in standard scoring.

Thank goodness then for those ppr formats.  He's going to eat over the middle of the field with so much attention devoted to AB and Gordon.

I thought adding Gordon actually helped him. Same token, adding AB doesn't hurt either. Edelman runs intermediate routes as did Gronk.

Some games he'll get double-digit targets and some games he'll be targeted 3-5 times; i.e. - status quo.

I'm more concerned about his health - his latest issue is a "thumb" and he's been on the "DTD" designation by Y! since August 1 or so.

He has averaged 5 TDs a season over the last 4. He can certainly get there. He is not and never will be a big red zone threat

He actually was last year.  With Gronk out, he was probably poised to be a target even more.

A couple stats:

"The 11th-year receiver posted 11 targets inside the 10-yard line despite playing just 12 games -- figures that were tied for third best in the NFL last season"

"1.67 red zone targets per game in 2018, only Zach Ertz averaged more"

AB has recorded more receptions than Edelman each of the last six seasons. Brown will have more catches in the majority of games that they are both active in.

The goat forgets about Julian now?

julian now a wr4?

Ab hurts JG more...James white even more

Best WR of last 5 years comes to your team, you don't start earning more fantasy points than you would've a day ago.

You can't see that, then you're likely a Julian owner in denial.

The drop shouldn't be in question. The real question is how far the drop goes.

Maybe a slight drop at best.  AB presence simply frees Julian up all over the field.  If his receptions take a slight dip, his efficiency with those receptions more than likely offsets it with no real dip in his productivity.

James White takes the biggest hit and becomes a more volatile week-to-week option now.

Lol people are crazy.

Antonio Brown makes everyone around him get a better paycheck.

The field will be open for Edelman, Gordon ect ... It will be a headcase for the opponent.

If anything yeah they will get less target but they won't get double team and the focus will not be on them they will have easier catch and more yards per carry.

AB didn't wanted to be a FA at 34 yrs old.

Edelman is thrilled

What a time to be alive, for now.

The hope here for Edelman and all the receivers is that AB elevates the pass game as a whole and makes everyones targets more efficient.

The biggest hit is probably White though. 123 targets is not going to happen again for him this year.  It may drop to around 75.

Add in Gronks 72 targets and you may be able to sustain AB without a huge drop to Edelman with AB getting around 110-120 targets.

The hope is that Brady can bring his TD total from 29 to above 40 and everyone might be ok.

Yep and trust me AB is not getting 160 plus targets this year....not gonna happen

And he knows he better not whine to papa bear Belichick or Brady about getting the ball.

Those days are over.

36 pass attempts to 7 different receivers tonight and Edelman easily led them all with 11 targets. This is pretty much the way I see this going even with Brown. Edelman is always open and those fast receivers outside really open up the middle for him. Edelman and Brady have been doing this for years and have great chemistry. Brown isn’t just going to show up and start seeing a ton of targets,

Me on the other hand feels like he will take a dip.  So many weapons at their disposal next week with brown in the line up.
