Jacob deGrom 2019 Outlook

Recommended Posts

He hasn’t pitched well and last nights performance is indefensible but I don’t think there’s much to worry about. He’s still missing bats at a top of the league rate. Strange year so far for pitching. Lot of underperforming from consistent established commodities and the top 20 era list right now resembles the discount dvd bin at yoir local Wal Mart.

You mean the guy with a 3.72 ERA and a worse whip than deGrom?

And the Mets destroyed his arm huh?

Nice hot takes. But hey at least you got one sentence right!

Dude, he's been gross. And after getting paid like a God. And the Mets are notorious for wrecking arms. What exactly are you defending here?

Advanced metrics usually tell the tale. Buy while you can. I got him for Berrios and spare parts in a dynasty league a week ago and am ready for the regression to come!

One thing I've noticed this year is that if he is not getting the calls on the corners from the ump he will not pitch like he is capable of. He gets frustrated and always leaves something over the plate to get hit hard. He seems to hate to walk guys to try and get the next batter. Batters are also laying off the high cheese which they chased a lot last year. Was big out pitch for him, but seems as though hitters have wizened up. I would love to see him pitch to contact more so he can keep his pitch count down, tough sell for a strikeout pitcher though.

His walks are up some from last year and his HR rate is way up.  Will probably come down but suggests he's leaving too many pitches out over the plate.

2nd DL stint this season coming up? He was just starting to put things together too. It's been a mess this season

Sounds like it was just a cramp and deGrom wanted to stay in. I find it funny the NY Post is criticizing the Mets for erring on the side of caution. After years of being the poster child on mishandling injured players, the Mets finally are making decisions to protect a star player and they are getting blasted for it??

The Mets were right to take deGrom out. With his pitch count, he would have only pitched one more inning anyway.

Isn't everyone's hr rate way up? It feels like every pitcher starts the game giving up a HR in the first 2 innings

But ya, he's definitely going to the DL

Real DL (as in, actual injury) or fake DL (give a guy a breather while he figures out the meaning of life)?

No doubt. Sounds like it wasn't a big deal, and he gets COL(prob without Blackmon) outside of Coors.

The Mets have got to be the worst team to ever take a major league field. Top to bottom. Players, managers, medical staff, clubhouse personnel. They should trade their starters to other teams so they don't waste more of their careers putting up with this crap. Every one of their starters wants to go 8 innings because they know it's guaranteed that the bullpen will blow it. Why he would sign an extension with this team is beyond me.

Some pretty dominant stuff last night from deGrom, esp v. hot ATL lineup...

FB- averaged 98+ with triple digis hit, great vert actions and a 75% strike rate with 4 whiffs

CH- averaged 92, threw 26--14 strikes with 9 swings and 4 whiffs

SL- oh baby, is it back?! He averaged 94 MPH on it last night and hit 96 with it, absurd spin and break to it, tossed in 25--19 strikes with 19 cuts and 9 whiffers #pornographic

CU- it might not even be fair if he went to this more, sits 85 with great horizontal tilt, spun up 7--3 strikes and 2 cuts

Mets broadcast showed deGrom wincing after throwing a 6th-inning pitch. He finished the inning but did not return for the 7th.

Gary Cohen reading deGrom's lips after pitch: "I think he said ouch.''

He was at 97 pitches and may have exited anyway. Something to keep an eye on though

He was over 110 pitches in his last three starts and on the radio broadcast they said Callaway didn’t want to push him today. Personally, I think the 7th inning of today’s game was a hell of a lot more important than the 9th inning in Atlanta with a 9 run lead but I digress.

It would be crazy to see how many wins this guy has been robbed of the last 2 seasons by either a horrendous offense and/or a horrendous bullpen. Does anyone know what percentage of quality starts results in a W league wide and what deGrom's percentage is the last 2 years?

He should demand a trade to a real team.
