Darwin Thompson 2019 Outlook

Recommended Posts

Didn't Damien have an injury late in the year last season?  I vaguely remember (I think) him battling through some issue, but I cannot remember if it was an ankle or his hamstring.  If it was his hammy, and then he aggravated it again this preseason, that might be a sign of some issues ahead and a possible opening for DT.

If I made up the whole injury thing from last year, my apologies for wasting space in this thread!

He had a hamstring injury back in July

Nothing against Darwin or Damien but anyone could overtake Hyde. Hyde just isn’t good so no surprise to me that Darwin past him on the chart. Been saying this since July in the DW and Hyde threads. IMO i think Reed is going to play all 3 guys with Damien having about 65%ish snap share. By 3 i mean Da. Williams Darwin and Damien.

I can't remember the last time a Chiefs RB outright took over the starting job without an injury. There is very little chance Darwin gets anything more than 8 touches a game unless Damien Williams gets hurt.

And I'm a Darwin owner and I don't have Damien.

This could easily turn into what Reid had going with the 2003 Eagles when Staley, Westbrook, and Buckhalter all shared workload and starts all season long.  It took until the following year until Westbrook (who was also a small school RB whose consensus was that he was too small to get serious workload) took over.

Reid tends to be a bit conservative with rookies at times.  Hunt got his workload reduced well into the season.  After a couple of losses they started feeding him the ball a ton and he took off.

ETA - Westbrook posted 154 touches with 37 being receptions, 945 total yds, and 11 TDs in 2003 in case you were wondering.  He started weeks 3, 5, 6, 8, 11, 13 and 15. It was a bonafide RBBC that year.

These are both good points.  It could be that Reid just assumes (rightly so) than any decent pass catching RB works in the system and he rides Williams until an injury.   Then just goes with next man up being Thompson.

So he didn't have any injury near the end of last season?

But I digress.  As much I want to draft Sparks McRhino as a league winner, I'll have to feel really good about the rest of my team to take him before the 10th.

And I have to assume the Williams owner will take him at least a round earlier if not 2.

Shoot. Let that man get a snap with the first team offense Saturday he’ll be going in the 7th!
