Stephen Curry 2019-2020 Outlook

You guys throw around “tanking” and “calling it quits” too liberally. This organization has pride. Plus there is collateral damage to being the worst team in the league.

Steph will be back when he’s ready. Doubt he “rests” as he’ll already have missed what, like, two months?

Oh yea and there is a parade for that pride every year. Biggest parade in the world for that, I believe.

I can tell you that living in the Bay Area, the GSW “fans” already jumped off the wagon. After they choked the 3-1 lead in the Finals, it almost went away. Now that they are not going to make the playoffs, I think that ship have sailed.

People seem to forget that not too long ago the warriors were a completely irrelevant franchise, and perpetual lotto team. Their previous franchise high notes in the modern era were winning a first round series as an 8 seed, a "Run TMC" team which won one playoff series, and the advent of 'nellie ball'] (to be fair, 'nellie ball' now looks visionary and ahead of its time, but I remember Nelson's '5 guard lineups' was a meme before memes were even a thing)

Even Curry's first years in the league this decade were on a go-nowhere team fighting Monta Ellis for shots next to and a laundry list of lotto busts like Anthony "Magic" Randolph and Ekep Udoh.

Despite the tech industry organizational makeover, this isn't exactly a franchise that's a stranger to taking L's. After extending Draymond and Klay, they're capped out and if they look like the worst team in the league without Klay. A healthy Klay will definitely improve this team, but I cant see that as enough to make them legit title contenders again when the rest of the roster is this bad.

They need to improve through the draft, and if sitting Curry and tanking for a top 3 pick is their only shot at immediately returning to contention, whether drafting a future star or trading it for assets, I'm pretty sure they'll make the rational decision and put any newfound pride that's built up over the last 5 years to the side

Amen.

People forget that for ~20 years prior to the juggernaut squad, we were one of the worst franchises in all of sports.

"HoW ArE wArRiOrS faNs GoNnA hAnDlE loSiNg"

MFer, I sat through 20 years of Vonteego Cummings, Chris Mills, Mike Dunleavy, Adonal Foyle, and Antawn Jamison.

I still remember when David Lee became our first All-Star since Sprewell.  I can take a few down years with Steph, Dray, and Klay on the roster.  This is nothing.

Vonteego Cummings LOL

Per Warriors, Stephen Curry had the CT scan, but now he's going to have specialists look at the results. Golden State is expecting no further update today. The hope is it will know tomorrow whether Curry will require surgery and how long he might be out. Connor Letourneau

Great writeup on the nature of the injury: http://instreetclothes.com/2019/10/31/understanding-steph-currys-broken-hand/

TL:DR - could be as little as around 8 games if no surgery required... more like 16 games if surgery is required.

If you are GSW though... why rush to bring him back... let him take his time and "load manage" Dray as well

Let's say he misses 20 games. That still puts him back in the lineup in early December.

I would be thrilled with that. Still 3 months before Fantasy playoffs.

I just hope the Warriors aren't so terrible that the franchise sort of shuts Curry down. Hopefully they can be in the running for a 7th or 8th seed by some miracle.

Way too early but the west is rough...  Even w/ Steph healthy they may not have made it

Likely 7 Playoff teams (Unordered): Spurs, Jazz, Lakers, Rockets, Nuggets, Blazers, Clippers

Fighting for 8: Mavs, Wolves, Suns        Dark Horses: Thunder/Pelicans

Don't see the warriors doing much this season but should be an interesting race for the 8th team in.

Next 9 opponents: SA, CHA, Por, Hou, Min, OKC, Uta, LAL, Bos...

Maybe 1 or 2 wins tops putting them at 2-3 wins and 11-12 losses... can't recover from that

Well, yeah. Realistically I expect the Warriors to be out of Playoff contention by the time Steph comes back.

However, do the Warriors play him and try to make a run? Or will they shut him down?

They probably won't just shut him down. Their fans and the NBA wouldn't have that. But maybe the minutes restrict him ...

I'll still be happy with 25-30 MPG from Steph.

Good post but You forgot the "We Believe " team where we were the 8th seed and upset Dallas in round 1 (then lost to Utah in the 2nd round - famous Baron dunk over ak47 )

GSW will be fined every game they rest curry if healthy, just like AD, 50k a game I think it was. And besides that, I don't see steph as the quitting type. If steph demands no rest, he won't be rested, he has enough say to make that decision himself. They don't want a trade demand threat coming their way from their generational player for not letting them try with the best shooter ever on the court. Even if they don't win many games before steph returns, they will fight for a playoff seed until mathematically eliminated. Sorry, the Mavs pels and wolves are all pretty good, but probably still a steep step below GS later on as they need to learn to play together with the young guys. They will have the time steph is out to get their act together and likely some players are going to step up with the usage available. D lo has potential and thrives as primary ball handler, draymond will get his guys good looks and guard they're best player. Chemistry will develop. Too early to quit when hes missing less than 2 months, maybe only 1. When steph comes back putting up 50 pts games, and winning, minds will change. He has a lot to prove. They also wont rest curry at all because it's a hand injury, sitting back to backs, min limits won't risk severe reaggravation, not a leg or back injury or anything. Too early... if you're thinking of selling, better get someone good.

Nah, they started off as Laker and Clipper fans and bandwagoned over to GSW. So one can say they’ve been returning south since the trade of AD to LAL and signings of Klaw and PG to LAC, plus GSW downfall and Wardell’s new injury.

Mass exodus of SoCal bandwagoners waiting to choose a side. Smh.

I've heard this theory before. Any actual data to support it?

As a lifelong Laker fan who would never think of rooting for another team, and having watched all of their games and rooted for them even when they sucked the past 6 seasons, I find it pretty annoying.

Seems like a real buy-low opportunity rn before the official results are in. Owners were already really down on him and now they don't know when he'll be back.

What would be a good offer for him?

No data. I’m also an LA fan, native born and raised. Just hear-say and What I’ve noticed from the base. Cali fans are fans of Cali in general, so makes sense they’d shift their fandom upstate. Bandwagoners nonetheless, but like you, I’ve been a Laker loyal through the darkest times.

I just threw a 2 for 1 at the owner myself. I can't say the details because it's Rotoworld members league.

But I don't think the league would allow me to have Harden, Westbrook, and Curry on the same team. LOL!

I don't understand how we'd bandwagon each other's team when Oakland/SF and LA are ~400 miles apart and we don't get the same TV coverage. Casual Warriors fans will certainly stop going to games now (ticket prices have dropped after Curry injury), but it's not like these same people are also gonna make the effort to bandwagon by traveling to LA to watch games. Seems like a BS theory made up by someone who doesn't understand geography or logistics.

I would absolutely believe if some Lakers "fans" migrated over to the Clippers while their team sucked, and then went back this year though . Anecdotally, I know some Lakers fans who would never root for the Clippers, and others who claim "I root for both LA teams" which is a bit fishy with some cases :P. I'd also say that most actual Warriors fan dislike the Lakers due to our history of irrelevance + existence of obnoxious Lakers fans, while some Lakers fans were probably willing to root for the Warriors vs Lebron teams because many Lakers / Kobe fans hated Lebron.

To be fair, he'll be out for awhile. (If not then you sly bastard 😏)

I've lived in the Bay Area, too.  I was living there in 2007, and they fans were as fervent then as any I've seen, so...

Yup. It's definitely a small percentage of people, if anything.

When it comes to sports, most people do not look at California as a whole.

Even outside of sports, it's SoCal vs. NorCal.

I agree this is idea of jumping from Lakers to Warriors and visa versa makes no sense.

I totally believe there are fake fans who will flutter between Lakers and Clippers when convenient. But that's not the norm.

And I think most GSW fans are very loyal. Their arena was always rocking even when they sucked for many years.

The actual bandwagon fans are probably those who live in other areas of the country and world and just latch on to the best franchises. The same way they do the Patriots and Steelers.
