Which stats would you choose?

Recommended Posts

Hey there,

I'm in 9-cat roto league and a bit frustrated with vetoing some trades and allowing other trades to proceed, so want to get your feedback/opinion on whether it is only me or you guys also feel this is a bit odd ...

Below are three recent trades (A1 vs A2, B1 vs B2, C1 vs C2, I want to keep it anonimuous so that noone is biased by names) in my league - some of them went through, some were blocked. I wonder which set of statistics would you choose (A1 or A2, B1 or B2, C1 or C2) and whether you think any of these (and which one, if any) trades should be vetoed?

FGA FGM FG% FTA FTM FT% 3PM PTS REB AST STL BLK TO
A1 14.83 8.33 0.5618 4.33 4.00 0.9231 1.67 20.00 6.33 5.83 0.83 0.50 2.67
A2 11.17 5.50 0.4925 4.83 3.33 0.6897 1.17 15.50 4.67 1.83 0.50 0.50 1.83
B1 7.33 2.67 0.3636 1.00 0.83 0.8333 1.50 7.67 6.67 3.00 0.50 1.33 2.50
B2 19.67 8.00 0.4068 8.33 7.17 0.8600 1.67 24.83 4.50 6.50 0.50 0.50 2.67
C1 8.64 4.09 0.4737 1.45 1.18 0.8125 0.64 10.00 6.82 2.18 1.09 1.18 0.91
C2 17.63 8.25 0.4681 4.75 3.63 0.7632 2.50 22.63 3.50 4.00 0.88 0.25 2.75

These all seem a bit odd, especially B and C, the second player in these two trades is clearly much better according to stats. But vetoing is a bit tricky and it all depends on the league. If veterans are doing that to rookies or a collusion between someone it should be vetoed. But if someone is doing the trade believing that player 1 will turn it around and player 2 will drop then I don't think that it should be vetoed...

Can you elaborate a bit on how you view C2 way much better than C1? The stats are worse for C2 in FG%, FT%, REB, STL, BLK and TOs and better only in 3PM, PTS and AST, so I am interested in the rationale behind that. This is a seasoned league, the same managers for around last 6-7 years.

A1 vs A2 - I don't understand this from A1's perspective clearly A1 is a better player and is better in more cats than A2. The only way this trade makes sense is if the A2 player is a bigger name who is in a slump and A1 want's to take a gamble on a turn around. Depending on who A2 is this could be an alright trade but if these are both lets say tier 3 stars in the NBA than A1 wins by a lot in my opinion and I wouldn't mind it being veto'd.

B1 vs B2 - This should be veto'd for sure clearly B2 is a much better player than B1 and is better in the majority of categories.

C1 vs C2 - Unlike A1 vs A2 this one is closer in my opinion because although C1 looks to have lower Usage than C2, C1 has a lot of categories that he's postive in that C2 can't really compete in like the stocks and rebounds. I feel like this one might have gotten veto'd only because C2 is probably a bigger name than C1 but you said it's a seasoned league so I would maybe let this trade slide unless C1 has a small sample size of NBA work like a rookie or a WW pickup.

Thanks, appreciate your feedback. I will not reveal the palyers' names yet not to bias others who may throw their 2 cents on that, but I can tell you that A1 is a borderline all-star and A2 by any manner is not and in C1 vs C2 (this is actually few players for few players) there is one all-star on both sides.

And here is the thing - trades A1 for A2 and B1 for B2 were not vetoed and C1 vs C2.

C1 vs C2 was my trade, where I needed PTS, 3PM and FT% and the other manager needed stocks and rebounds + he was getting 2 C eligible players to replace his crappy and only 2 Cs (Dedmon, Baynes) on the roster was vetoed.

Quite odd, right?
