CORONAVIRUS threatening to end NBA season early?

Recommended Posts

So if the season gets cancelled, we could land the number 1 pick and still make the Finals for 6 straight years ....

So... Prediction time. And let us be bold with our predictions like when I drafted Dejounte Murray in the 4th round.

They are talking about month or so after league reviews the possibility to continue season. The political will amongst owners is there to complete the season.

In a month... USA will be in very bad place with korona. I think the measures taken and the capability to control the situation are among the worst in Western World. The people of US are also very...unrest as far their nature goes. So I'm feeling some of the behavior of masses will be less than optimal. Riots and such will happen. Trump might do something stupid etc. The dead will be in piles, that is for sure.

All and all the situation will not be good enough to even think about playing when it is closer to martial law situation in the States. It might be closer to summer when everything is under control. Or more likely well in to the summer. I don't even see it be impossible that the season actually gets shut down completely. I'm gonna go with "Earliest at June but very possible to be cancelled" option.

What is your take on the situation?

Mind blown. If they're successful poor teams might plan their rebuild around pandemics too. They'll only have to wait another 100 years, which for a team like the Knicks greatly speeds things up.

China's already getting better, so is South Korea.

It's on my firm view that in a month things will get better and the NBA will be resumed with no fans. Fingers crossed.

There is no reason to believe anything the Chinese government tells you. They've already been caught lying many, many times.

Lol. Knicks rebuilding strategies:

1. All in for LeBron in 2011. Fail

2. Tank for Zion. Fail

3. Rebuild around next pandemic

If this does end up playing out until August with a short break before the start of next season. There’s going to be so many rest days for players next year. Probably worse than this year.

As much bad things that came from China, couple things that China and South Korea and many other countries has done much better than us are having many many more testings done, and also separating people with the virus from people that doesn't. What we're doing right now is barely any testings being done, and self quarantine when we have symptoms or already infected. We can't all self quarantine either or you risk being fired, so then you're forced going to work while being sick. While in self quarantine, staying at home most likely you're also spreading it to your whole family rather than being separated into hotels or hospitals etc. Some cities in the US can only do 20 tests a day, 20! In Korea they average about 20,000 tests a day. We are so far behind and unaware that I highly doubt things will get better sooner rather than later. China also locked down subways, restaurants, etc. etc. while having the infected separated while most Americans are still going to work without a clue if they have the virus or not.

I believe this too, especially for people like Kawhi and LeBron who should be super ready to go 100% maxed out in every game of the playoffs with this long layoff to recover any kind of nagging little issues they might have.

China and South Korea also have universal free health care, so citizens can be tested if they fill sick without worrying about the  fees they need to pay.

Example: my uncle  in Houston. $1,000+ put of his pocket despite having insurance to get tested (he is fine, no virus). One of his coworkers goes to the same church as one of the confirmed coronavirus cases in Houston.  Now that person is feeling sick and have told the office: "I can't afford those fees to get tested."  Now what? That person still comes to work and goes on as everything is normal.

A lot businesses in the US are keeping anyone sick with anything home for 2 weeks or if they leave the country same thing, cant come in for 2 weeks, probably a little late since testing has been so terrible to this point but just wanted to mention it

"A lot" is not the same as "everyone". And "everyone" goes against individualism that US prefers.

"I can take care of myself" principle does not work  at the level of entire population. Some people need help. And this is where rest of the developed world said: "ok, let me help you".

Considering that there are millions without health care in US I can imagine what US said.

It is not the people with money and health insurance that are the problem.  It is the people who live paycheck to paycheck and people without insurance that will make things much worse before it gets better.

Imagine if the US had universal health care. Would dealing with the virus  be much easier?

I don't really post here, just a lurker. But I gotta comment and call you out for this bullshit. At a time of national crisis, we don't need your hyper-partisan bullshit. f--- off with your Trump Derangement Syndrome, "the dead will be in piles," "riots and such will happen" insanity. People like you are are what's making this situation even worse than it needs to be.

Scott Van Pelt had an interesting take on how Gobert's diagnosis really sped up focus on the seriousness of this issue.  Absent the issues surrounding the Jazz-Clippers game which were both abrupt and startling, the NCAA might still be playing games.  However, a high profile athlete - who was not even in the building - but who could have been in a building with thousands of people followed by another teammate - who was in the building - both being diagnosed pushed the sports world past its tipping point.

Sports aside, this situation also raised the concerns to another level from both a public and political perspective.

My god, serious ?? $1k?!

Can I ask why the fk you guys don't have free health care ??

Here in Aus you can get a dr to come and see at night (a locum ) for free then go through a drive through that tests you (also free ) the next day

Because that's how it should be

I find it hard to believe any of these organizations will publicly complain about how the NBA decides to handle the rest of the season considering the NBA wants to make $$$ just as much as each franchise does.  Sure they will express disappointment but all owners understand the NBA has to protect their product's reputation in the eyes of the public, and will just have to deal with whatever the outcome is.

what? a bubble team getting cut from playoffs based on going with current standing will certainly complain and should voice their opinion as they also gain to money by not making the playoffs, let alone the competitive nature of sports and wanting to be ni the playoffs.

Ah yes, China's healthcare system, a true model to the rest of the world.  Ranked 144th in the world by the WHO beneath countries such as Yemen, Sudan, Burundi, India, and Iraq

Because we think that giving something to everyone is socialism and must not be tolerated. If you give people free healthcare, what's next, just cutting them a check every month to be lazy while the rest of us slave away?!?!

Never mind that the current US government healthcare plan is literally the opposition's plan from 25 years ago. But because it was put into place by the other party they oppose it at every turn.

What they don't seem to realize is that the alternative is much less aligned with their political philosophies, so they should have done their best to make this system work instead of trying to break it down, because the alternatives (public option, M4A, single payer) are even worse.

Because there is more than 270 million guns in America and no politician would dare raise the taxes to the levels needed to pay for "free" health care.
