Most catchers bat near the bottom of the order. Kelly is a decent catcher, not great, not horrible. He’s young with some upside.

Def one of the catchers I am targeting, he was one of the top catcher prospects on his march up the STL ladder, then really came into his own last year in ARZ.

In his first season as a full-time big league catcher, he exhibited one of the greatest increases in launch angle (5.4 to 14.3 degrees), hard-contact rate (25.8% to 40.4%) and fly ball rate (16.1% to 29.7%), without any real loss in terms of overall contact. What's more, Kelly provided better-than-average defense, including rating as one of the better pitch framers, which could potentially fuel one of the larger plate appearance totals of any backstop in 2020.

In a 2 month season where pretty much anything could happen, Carson Kelly has a good chance to be a top 5 catcher. As Steven said above, he's actually kind of a decent hitter. Doesn't K a lot, makes solid contact, puts the ball in the air, takes BBs. In the first half of last year he had an OPS of .890
