Your Team’s “Mt. Rushmore” In Your Lifetime

Recommended Posts

I’m staying away from the Ty Cobb/Hank Greenberg types. Think it’s more interesting to stick with guys we’ve seen play.

I think the Tigers are relatively easy (and boring).

Miguel Cabrera (one of great RHH of last 40 years)

Justin Verlander

Alan Trammell

Lou Whitaker

The 4th name is probably the only one up for debate, but over 70 career bWAR. Seriously underrated. Hard to pick Magglio or Scherzer types who didn’t play majority of career here.

That said, really interested to see some others. Indians, Yankees, Jays are a few teams I know well, and would have difficulty cutting it to 4.

Who you got?

This 4th spot has me torn up inside (really wanna go Don Mattingly) but I'm gonna give it to Bernie Williams.

Atlanta is kinda a tough one...

But I think I have to go:

Chipper

Maddux

Glavine

Smoltz

Honorable Mention:  Freeman, Murphy, Andruw Jones...  Didn't get to see Aaron play or he'd be there for sure

Posted (edited)

Jose Reyes

David Wright

Mike Piazza

Jacob deGrom

Caveat: If I was older I'd include Keith and Seaver or Reyes and Piazza.

Frank Thomas

Harold Baines - Has no business being in the HOF, but he was the face of the White Sox for about 7-8 years in the 80s

Paul Konerko

Mark Buerhle

Just missed:

Fisk - Regardless of his time here, I always think Red Sox when I think Fisk

Sale - Best White Sox pitcher I'll likely ever see, but can't stand him. F him, his scissors and his affection for Drake LaRoche's leadership.

Ventura - Boring player, boring person.

Was interested to dig deeper. Bernie edges him in fWAR, wRC+. Seems the right call by the closest of margins (then include championships).

Andre Dawson

Ryne Sandberg

Sammy Sosa

...

Mark Grace, Rick Sutcliffe or Tony Rizzo. None of them hold a candle to the top 3.

I’m no Mariners expert, but my buddy who’s a huge fan has Ichiro in over ARod and gives an honorable mention to King Felix

White Sox:

Big Hurt

Buehrle

Konerko

Fisk

Also, in front of the monument I'd put a bronze statue of Steve Lyons dropping his pants at first base.
