Insensitive perhaps - but just mistaken mainly: around the time of attribution of that name, most of the players were of Polish descent.

But the organization is Irish Catholic.

Think of it like this, if a Mexican restaurant, owned by Mexicans, calls itself The Spicy Mexican, that's not offensive. Even if some of the people working in the kitchen are Puerto Rican.

If the Dallas Cowboys were the Dallas Spicy Mexicans, we'd have a problem.

You have to see the difference between having a nickname rooted in what you are (with a positive connotation, no less) and having a nickname that's derogatory toward another group of people unrelated to you (with a racial slur, no less).

What leads you to believe the “organization” is Irish-Catholic?

But...I literally presented it to you - did you not read the article?

Unequivocally, the origins of the nickname stem from a desire to differentiate Notre Dame for its Catholicism. It is a negative portrayal of Catholics and immigrants. It is a stereotype of the violent Irish. It’s just been spun into a positive over time.”

Why would they have to differentiate it for its Catholicism when their nickname used to be “The Catholics” lol

Look at the early presidents of the school. How could anyone think this is an Irish Catholic institution.

President Patrick Dillon - An Irish Catholic priest: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Dillon

President Patrick Colovin - An Irish Catholic Priest.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Colovin

President Andrew Morrissey - You guessed it, an Irish Catholic priest.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Morrissey

Etc...

Do you have any links to the pages of the Native Americans who ran the Redskins organization? I couldn't find any.

I've read all the articles you've posted. I don't know what your point is. Why don't you clue me in.

I read every word of the article. I disagree 1000% with the word unequivocally in that sentence. That's not remotely unequivocal. It's the opposite. It's that author's opinion. An opinion supported by.... nothing.

Look, maybe I'm being insensitive, but I'm pretty sure everyone making this Notre Dame argument is using a false equivalency to make a bad faith argument on purpose.

Again, it's an Irish Catholic school. It is, and always has been an Irish Catholic school. So they're racist against... themselves?

If the Washington Redskins were a Native American Organization operated by Native Americans, on Native American land, I don't think it would be an issue. Right?

Damn, running intellectual circles around them boys. Go easy.

I’m just confirming that Notre Dame’s “Fighting Irish” is most definitely a racial slur. Excited to see what the public pressure does about derogating Irish-Americans here, as the team most certainly does.

Eh, maybe if it was the "Drunken Fighting Irish". Otherwise I dont see a problem with the Irish.

I also heard that early natives thought the name redskin was funny/ironic as white people looked more red in the cold.

But anyway, I agree to change the name. I can see why people dont like it and its really not that big of a deal to change it. That and they can make a ton of money selling new merch.

Prediction: the players won't be motivated to grind it out in the trenches and will take more of a pro bowl approach to the most games.

What? Dude, I'm offended. I clearly intended to make the worst prediction early on.

So: if you test positive you’re now out for a minimum of three weeks...

My bold prediction?  Preparing in any way for fantasy football drafts will prove a fruitless endeavor.

I’m just going to stock up on Eagles WRs to be safe since they can’t catch anything.
