Lucas Giolito.  Because it's still his name...

Seriously though, I like Mitch Keller in this role.

Strong peripherals last year, change in coaching staff, and good stuff.

So by this years LG are we talking who is next young star pitcher? Or a pitcher who struggled a bit and then broke out in a big way?

Candidates could be Fried, Pearson,

Cease, Howard, Gore if he pitches, Luzardo

Guys who struggled a bit for one reason or another that could breakout in a big way are Glasnow due to inj, Cease due to high ERA, Keller sure, def would add  more names to this list...

I believe Fried or Matty Boyd ends up being best of all these pitchers this year...justa hunch...

I took the question as a pitcher that has struggled and broken out.

I think Cease could mirror Giolito quite a bit. Will depend on consistency with his new approach.

Well Pablo Lopez struggled a bit when first called up.  I'd throw him into the hat.  Maybe Sean Newcomb gets moved back into the rotation?

Mitch Keller for me

Cease will be next year’s Giolito.

Cease hasn’t struggled long enough yet to qualify as the next Giolito

And neither have Urias or Luzardo

Last year Lucas Giolito started 29 games and won 14 of them. Seeing how they are only playing 60 games this year the most starts you can get will be 12 games. By default this thread should be closed.

There's this math thing called "prorating".  Check it out.

A lot of names mentioned cant really "Giolito".

To Giolito means to be a top prospect, have a rough start to the majors, have the worst ERA in the league one year, and the next year be a Cy Young candidate. I mean, it doesn't have to be THAT exact, but I assume that was the intent of the post.

Forest Whitley doing anything of value in the MLB would be maybe sort of in the same vein, although he hasn't struggled in the majors yet

I thought this was going to be the year Andrew Heaney really broke out, he hasn't struggled per se, just always injured never living up to his talent. I think he's right on the edge

Cease seems to be the one who matches the description

1. Former top prospect

2. Failed to live up to the hype early

3. Has the stuff to turn it around if the command improves

The potential is there. Maybe Giolito can impart some wisdom on how to overcome adversity

Prorated Stats

12 starts, 5.79 wins, 94 Ks, 3.41 ERA, 1.1 Whip

A few others that fit the top prospect who struggled that has a chance to put it together, Taijuan Walker, Alex Reyes, Dylan Bundy, Justus Sheffield. I have very little confidence in any of them actually doing it outside of Bundy and even he is a long shot.

My favorite is probably Corbin Burnes if he gets a spot in the rotation.

I would go with Mitch Keller.   Definitely think Dylan Cease is a good option as well.
