Dallas Goedert 2020 Outlook

Simply lazy reporting. I don't mean to bash, because some really know their stuff, but many do not. You do not come back from a broken ankle in 3 weeks.

How so? Any outlet reporting he'll return in 3 weeks from a broken ankle on a short week is simply basing it off of the IR timeframe and not the injury itself. It's either lazy, or ignorant. Take your pick.

Okay doctor, show me your degree and Goedart's scans and I'll take my pick. If not, then I'll trust the beat reports and analysts are much more plugged into the specifics about the injury (potentially even talking to the team doc)  [...]

But in all seriousness, I believe when this injury happened, the average recover time was 4-6 weeks.  I believe this would be the 4th week.

People are not lying to you when they say he's eligible to return from IR but the likelihood of him actually playing would be very slim IMO. I think if he starts to practice, that would be a win in itself but I wouldn't bank on him playing in a short week.

Nobody said he's coming back that I've seen. Just that he's eligible to come back which is true. It can make it seem like they are reporting he's back but they aren't. They are just reporting what they are being given.

Quote

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports Zach Ertz (ankle) is expected to miss "3-4 weeks."

Ertz will presumably be moved to injured reserve in the coming days with a high-ankle sprain. The Eagles will also be short Miles Sanders (knee) for 1-2 weeks but are expected to get back both DeSean Jackson (hamstring) and Dallas Goedert (ankle) Thursday night. Ertz, who had totaled 24/178/1 and 3.9 yards per target through six games, can be universally dropped across re-draft leagues.

BET Slant:

According to PointsBet Sportsbook, in the Thursday night matchup between the Eagles and Giants, the line was Philly -6 and has moved to -3.5.

I just looked up the initial injury and it said that the Eagles hoped he'd be ready when first eligible. These outlets are just presuming that they are coming back until the team updates things. I don't know how else they are supposed to report it. He's in the injury window that the team provided. I assume he isn't coming back just yet either.

Can anybody find out what the actual injury is, besides fractured ankle? I have fractured my ankle before, and it surprisingly was a quick recovery, 3 weeks in a cast then physical therapy for 2 weeks (and I'm not a professional athlete). It just depends on what bone you fracture.

Small hairline fracture. The original estimates are only a few weeks so I see why all these outlets are suggesting he'll be back soon. It's all they have to work with since the Eagles said it would be that long and haven't updated anything. They are only reporting the timeline they were given. Don't understand everyone thinking otherwise.

I agree.

I think it’s the opposite. They DO know how IR works and hence why reporting he could be back (3 weeks). Problem is, I seriously doubt he’s ready. Especially on a short week.

No they don't understand. "Eligible" to return doesn't mean they will return. Yet these podcasts are reporting he is returning.

agree but it will have been 4 weeks as of the Sunday. Doubt he plays this week but week 7 certainly seems possible.

Again, I read the source for that RW blurb quoted above, which was a post from Chris Mortensen.  The source post did not mention Desean Jackson or Dallas Goedert.

We will find out later this week if Goedert gets activated.  He needs to be stashed, whether or no.  The initial reporting on the injury was a tiny fracture that would heal with rest and no surgery required.  Absent updates to that initial report, he could potentially be activated and play this week.

Yes. Don't know why everyone is bashing these news outlets. The reports are spot on to what they've been given by the Eagles.

They are working off the timeline provided directly by the Eagles...what would you suggest they do?

Easy answer for fantasy players: pick up Goedert.  Play him if active.  Rinse and repeat.

That was my point. All they understand are the “rules.” But that doesn’t mean they understand the injury.

CBS changed him to expected return week 8

Fwiw, local news hasn’t said much about him. There’s so many Eagles injuries it would likely take an hour to go through them all with updates.

Jeff McClane of the Philly Inquire said Goedert is not playing this week.

Could you post a link or share where you heard him say that?  I'm not seeing anything on Jeff's twitter feed.  Thanks.

Saw on twitter that McLane said it during a radio interview.

I am still putting a claim in for Goedert but not expecting to use him this week and consider him questionable at best next week before the bye.

That is an accurate statement of fact that tells us almost nothing.  Still on I.R. at this moment.  But they are eligible to be activated.  We'll see.

Man I can’t wait for Goedert’s return, but TBH I’d rather him sit 1 more week to get even healthier. This job will be his no matter what.

I can't see why they wouldn't just wait until after the bye week tbh.
