James Robinson 2020 Outlook

Again, it is all speculation but...

The coach and GM didn't say "Devine Ozigbo made the decision to release Fournette easier" they said that about JRob

Ozigbo was on the team last year and had 9 for 27. Maybe he isn't a jag but in the guessing game that is fantasy football more signs are pointing at JRob, like most end of bench flyers it's worth watching the first week or two to see what happens or what shakes out.

C'mon, you've been around a long time like me. You know coach talk is meaningless most of the time. A lot of these quotes on the roto blurbs are taken out of context. Like a reporter specifically asks about a certain player, coach says good things about that player. Then rotoworld frames it as if the coach is going out of his way to talk a guy up. I have no clue the exact context of that particular quote though. Also, 9 NFL carries is hardly a sample size worthy of writing a guy off IMO. He did average over 5 yard per carry in a Power 5 football conference on over 400 carries.

Point being, stash away but saying Ozigbo sucks as the reason for doing it seems like a reach. Personally, I am going to try to add him because I'm light on RB in my deep league. But it's because Ozigbo is already owned, not because I think Robinson is markedly better. If they're both available I might flip a coin.

Like you, I need RB depth also in a deeper league. I already had Ozigbo and I just added Robinson because we really don’t know how the touches will be distributed yet. I do think one of the two can emerge as a decent RB3/4 type.

Naturally I know coach speak. That's why I said to read between the lines.

Do you know that coaches use the media to send messages to their players?

What kind of message do you think it sends to name James Robinson as a leading factor in releasing fournette? To make James feel better? Then to hear the GM echo that sentiment?

If he ends up being nothing I'm fine with that and can move on easily but I feel like I know the difference In a coach complementing a player and the organization thinking they might have found a good player

I'd like to take a flier on him but I don't have roster space. He looks like a good lotto ticket though guys. Good luck!

If they're using the statements to send a message how are you so sure they're not saying it to motivate Ozigbo because they want him to be a major contributor this season 😄

And props to you for being able to decipher coach-talk and identify the 10% it means something vs the 90% of hot air. You're a better man than I. GL to everyone stashing Robinson. He may be on my roster too before week 1.

Exactly.  One roster move is worth 1000 words of coachspeak.

I'm more excited about Shenault than this guy.

does that rhyme with "Renault" (ri-NOE), or "fault"? (fawlt)?

Shinnoe or Shinnawlt?

🤔

Did shensults Injury riddled senior season or his core muscle surgery during the off-season get you more excited?

Free agent RB Devonta Freeman did not reach an agreement with the Jaguars during a weekend visit with the team.

Jacksonville brought in the veteran back after waiving Leonard Fournette. Freeman leaving the Jaguars without a deal means James Robinson or Devine Ozigbo could be in line for starter's snaps against the Colts in Week 1, though passing down RB Chris Thompson could see considerable usage in a game in which the Jaguars are heavy underdogs. With no preseason and a shaken up running back depth chart, deploying any Jacksonville running back this week is a risky proposition for fantasy managers.

Yahoo! listing him as a WR if he ends up getting carries / wildcat snaps at some point within the goalline did.

are these lottos (ozigbo or robinson) worth more than a high quality handcuff? (pollard, scott, mattison, etc.)

Depends if you’ve got guaranteed starters at RB.

A high quality handcuff is more likely to walk into your lineup in that case when it pans out.

Not quite but the thing about JRob is he could bust hard or he could earn a starting spot as a RB.

The other guys will have stand alone roles and become starters if an injury occurs.

I would say they are actually. The likelihood that a guy like Robinson is actually starter quality is more likely than the chance that the handcuff gets meaningful PT.

Depends on your team really. Essentially the same question was posed in the Kerryon thread whether he was worth holding over Chase Edmunds and everyone said Chase>Kerryon. The perceived upside is higher with alot of these high end lotto stashes but they're worthless without an injury. If your team can't use a Kerryon or Jax RB or whoever then you're better off holding the lotto ticket that may actually help. There are deeper leagues out there where even mediocre starting RBs are very useful though.

Just announced as the starting RB

Choo Choo!

Yup.

  • The Jaguars listed James Robinson as the starting running back on their Week 1 depth chart.

Devine Ozigbo is the RB2, and pass-catching specialist rounds out the depth chart as the RB3. Overall, we shouldn't read too much into this, as interns typically handle these types of things on official team websites, but there's no doubt the Jaguars have really liked what they've seen from the undrafted rookie Robinson this summer. All three backs are expected to see snaps and touches in the Week 1 opener against the Colts. Robinson would appear to be the best bet for fantasy production.
