Jamaal Williams 2020 Outlook

Recommended Posts

Just wanna leave this one here. Can't deny that he had his role the last seasons. The Packers want to run even more and maybe, just maybe, there is some truth to Rodgers words. Someone rostering this dude for the first weeks?

Some quotes from the training camp.

HC Matt LaFleur:

Quote

“He brings a lot of energy to our football team. And versatility. He came in really, really good shape. I saw some of his workouts, and it did not look easy. He really works his tail off.”

Quote

“I think he’s kind of a sleeper in the pass game as well. I think he’s done some great things for us in the pass game, he’s demonstrated that. Today, he ran a route and did a great job getting open, but the ball didn’t go his way. We have a lot of confidence in Jamaal, not only his ability to run but also in the passing game and as a pass blocker.”

And from running backs coach Ben Sirmans:

Quote

“Jamaal did a great job throughout the offseason improving his overall quickness and ability as a receiver. Those things have shown up big time so far in camp.”

Quote

“That’s one of the vocal points that we talked about last year at the end of the season, an area where I wanted to see him was just his overall quickness and agility against man coverage. He’s really worked hard in the offseason.”

Quote

“Whether he’s pressed up in man or we’re doing option routes, he has such a better feel for running routes. He knew that was one of his weaknesses last year. He’s really, really improved in that area. I think that’s going to make him a bigger weapon in this offense.”

Some Packers fans here that can tell their insights and beliefs of how Williams will be used?

Just awakening the dead here. Hasn't been much chatter this year. This was a hot thread last year. I guess AA-ron Jones (Overall RB1) has silenced critics for now. 🤩

For now. Would you bet your season on Aaron Jones staying healthy every game? I’m not a big handcuff guy but we have a sample size from prior seasons showing Jamal Williams gets simmilar workload. I’d rather have a guy like this on my bench than a Nyemia Hines or some player that I’ll never fell great about starting

It's 2020, and the football gods have not been kind. Owners hope this thread stays silent.

You're tempting fate poking the bear. It's Jones' job as long as he's healthy and Williams is just his jockstrap carrier, but for how long?

Everyone's most hated handcuff, anyone stashing this guy especially after the nightmare weekend we just had with injuries?

To me it makes more sense to stash a potential home run in Williams then some no name guys we have on the waiver wire.

I had him on my watch list and was hoping he'd fly under the radar for another week. But, one of the sharks in my 12 teamer picked him up for free early this morning.

He should definitely be owned by the A. Jones owner, and if not and you have a spot on your roster you can afford to spend on him, yeah....I'd definitely stash him.

the immediate value here is not tied to being Jones understudy, but rather the health of Adams.

uptick in ppr if Davante is gonna miss any time.

So what’s the thinking... they’ll play a lot of 2 RB sets with Jamaal going out for routes?

Yall think Jamaal's larger role in this offense is here to stay or is he going back to 20% snaps, 1 target per week?

Nope, that was a function of no Adams. He's strictly a high value cuff or very deep league fill-in.

RB1 If (big IF) Jones is to miss this week or be limited in any capacity, they're playing HOU he'd almost startable as a backup

Posted this in Aaron Jones thread...

If Aaron Jones misses time, Jamaal Williams could just slot right into his massive role.

Rush/reception ratios for GB's RBs so far:

Aaron Jones 75 rushes, 5.2 YPC (5 TDs), 18 receptions (2 TDs) (80/20 run/catch ratio), 24 red zone touches  (1.27 fantasy points per touch)

Jamaal Williams  33 rushes, 4.3 YPC, 13 receptions (72/28), 9 red zone touches, (0.89 fppt)  (zero TDs)

AJ Dillon  13 rushes, 5 YPC, 0 receptions (100)  (0.50 fppt), zero red zone touches  (zero TDs)

Jones and Williams have been used in pretty much the same way.  Williams isn't just a receiving back.  Aaron Jones has all the touchdowns though.  If they slot in Jamaal, they might give Dillon the goal line work, but it looks like they prefer a dual threat RB in the red zone.

Could have a league winner here.

LaFleur has a bromance with him anyway so I could see a huge game from him if Jones sits this week.

Yup. I own both in dynasty, and at this point I’d almost prefer Jones just sit this week. The last thing I want is for him to go out there too soon and then we’re looking at him missing multiple weeks.

Does anyone remember the ancient year of 2018?

Jamaal Williams won many people a fantasy championship that year -- me included. Filling in for Aaron Jones, this guy has been a beast at times. Has the full three-down skillset etc...If Jones is out Williams is a great plug and play option.

He out-snapped Jones at full health the last two games; so yeah if Jones misses he should be in line for 20+ touches. They will take the opportunity to get Dillon involved, but as long as GB doesn't run away with it I expect Williams will operate as the primary back.

rb 2 must start if jones sits? good chance since they promoted another rb from practice squad + packers very safe with their stars

Yes, especially in this matchup. Potential RB1 upside.

The Texans have a horrible run d, right? Well, here's who they've faced so far.

Week 1: CEH

Week 2: Baltimore backs

Week 3: Conner

Week 4: Cook

Week 5: They held Jacksonville in check.

Week 6: Derrick Henry

Jamaal Williams is a lot closer to James Robinson than any of the other names on that list.
