Bo Jackson 2020 Outlook

Recommended Posts

Former Los Angeles Raiders running back Bo Jackson isn’t a fan of NFL defenses today. Jackson believes defenders have gotten so bad at tackling that he could average “350-400 yards a game” if he played today.

Jackson, 57, made those comments on Deion Sanders’ “21st & Prime” podcast Monday. Jackson decried tackling methods today, saying defenders rely too much on their shoulder pads instead of wrapping up.

Who does this guy think he is? Derrick Henry? 🤣

To be fair, he played in a different era. Defensive players get a 15 yard penalty for breathing on QBs wrong. Hyperbole yes, but you get my point. Guys like Dick "Nighttrain" Lane or Ronnie Lott couldn't play in today's NFL, the laundry would be constantly on the field. It has gotten ridiculous.

Remember when scouts tried to compare Lenny Fournette to Bo?

Bo was special, he could have been the GOAT RB if he focused on only Football. I still remember that day he got injured.

Bo might be the RB GOAT.

I have a lot of nostalgia for Bo Jackson, but I don't know, its a different era.  I think the NFL is bigger, stronger and faster then when he played. Plus everything is committee now, with QB throwing almost every play. Going to be hard to get all that yardage when he isn't handed the ball.

I highly doubt he could run for 300 yards in a game... He's 57 years old and had a devastating hip injury.

You should see this argument on Twitter. Very entertaining. Somehow, Aaron Donald’s name got brought up discussing how Bo would dominate. I mentioned, Bo, would fold up Donald like cheap lawn furniture. I almost broke the thread.

I am always curious to see how the great athletes of years ago would do today.  The argument is that todays  players are much more athletic, bigger and stronger... but what would Bo do ?  If he had todays training methods, diets, and science behind him.   From everything i understand about Bo... is he was pretty much a natural athlete.    So Bo would be bigger, stronger and faster as well today.

I always say the same about Micky Mantle.   This was a guy that played most games hungover or drunk.   Probably never touched a weight in his life.

Classic "back in my day" nonsense you hear from Jordan stans in NBA circles all the time.  Both the average NFL and elite NFL athletes are way more athletic nowadays vs. his era.  Defensive schemes are more complex too.

We had a "no Bo Jackson" rule as kids when we played this game.

He's absolutely right!

I see it in every game. Defenders go high all the time.

IDK if it's how they're taught or they just don't want to put the effort into it, but it's comical sometimes the yards after contact that can be gained simply by poor fundamentals and/or a lack of effort.

Obviously he was exaggerating a bit to make his point but he'd be a stud, no doubt. It's a passing league now but his team would find a way to feed him just like the teams do with their elite backs that aren't great pass catchers.
